This is an excellent video. I've never seen your channel until now but the fact that your formulating intuition based on your experience and your observations, and harvesting this curiosity and asking questions when there are contradictions in your observations is an amazing mindset, it's a problem solving mindset and the onset to a very scientific one as well. And then you went even further and consulted experts and real scientists to try and connect your observations and theory and then went even further and shared all of your findings with the world. And then even gave tips on how to deal with the conditions which is amazing. That's really damn great take my damn sub, This channel should have a lot more views and subs

Thanks for watching and taking the time to share your comment. It means a lot and I'm glad you found and enjoyed the video. I try my best to share fishing reports and knowledge with info on the local waters. I also try to pepper in a hint at local happenings and the weather while providing some helpful guidance to better approach the next trip. It's my goal to help have more successful days on the water. That's what it's all about.

Thanks for taking the time to share this report. I have heard from other people who watch the weather closely that there will be a disruption of the Labrador current. In my opinion you are really onto something. I was on the island over the weekend of the 4th and it was the first time in 6 years that I was skunked in July.

Thanks for watching and commenting. The chill water made fro some tough fishing. It seems to be improving now.

I grew up most of my life fishing Shark River and Monmouth county. It’s been really cold! I now spend a lot of time in LBI because my mother in law just bought a house in Beach Haven West. I’ve been looking to hit up the beach for fluke and kingfish. I used to spearfish Barnegat Inlet and don’t think I’ve ever experienced water this cold this time of year

It has rebounded and fishing improved with it but this week we have more south winds in the forecast. Only time will tell what plays out.

Very good information. The south wind this year has made fluking tough.

I'm so over this year. I was saving for a radar but picked up a 19 Hydra Sport off my friend behind the acme in Beach Haven Park 😆. I was supposed to give it a go last night and then about 2hrs before leaving they laid the dense fog advisory. Last week I drove down got the boat in and met a wall at the inlet. So now time to hit the skuke

Thanks for the video, I enjoy hearing about why this water is so cold mid july. I like the more science based approach you took. Been a really strange summer so far, water and weather wise. I'm in monmouth county and it is FREEZING cold. I live on the beach and fish most mornings. Whatever fluke bite have been short, so many 17's, I dont get it

Sorry to fishing has been dead for you. I suggest taking a walk on the north end bayside. You should find some fluke bites.

Was down this weekend with friends so less fishing in OC. Water is so cold and clear, it did turn brown later in the day. That fog, must have not been too fun for the boaters. Some sharks been cruising the river side. Really enjoyed this video with the talk about the currents, winds and upwells. Could the long cold water temps be pushing fish more south? My charter friend has been having an insane season down VA/NC area.

Today, there was a lot of seaweed washing up getting on my line. Is there a way to forecast when there will be. Lot of seaweed washing into shore? Want to avoid this. Help.
@FishermansHeadquarters3 ай бұрын
Not really. Usually after a hard blow it can get weedy and commonly after onshore winds for a day or two. Once the wind and waves put the weed on the beach it turns into a tidal thing where sometimes it's high and dry on the beach and then other times where it is back in the water and sloshing around moving with the current. Very hard to predict before hand. I can share that it's rare the entire island is choked with weed so when you find it in one area move a couple towns in one direction or the other and you will usually find cleaner conditions.

Long story short, no Spanish this summer. Thanks Greg, good stuff.
@FishermansHeadquarters4 ай бұрын
It's a bummer because we had some warm waters earlier. Some bonita showed and I know our bunker guy had a couple Spanish mackerel. We should be catching mahi at the near shore buoys this time of year. Instead we are catching ling!

I have been absolutely hammering stripers off the surf all summer for months. Saturday I had 10. No fluke though
@FishermansHeadquarters3 ай бұрын
Striped bass are one of the good things that comes with cold summertime water temps. Gotta love it but the fluke don't.

I caught 3 Cownose rays today off the dock in beach haven. Was fishing gulp for Fluke and they were eating it. Had another bite almost spole me out. Don’t know if it was a bigger cownose or a shark. They were all between 25-35 pounds.
@FishermansHeadquarters4 ай бұрын
Good to hear you are getting the line tight and the drag screaming. Cow nose rays are brutes and test your tackle. Sometimes they spice up a slow day and other times they can really be a nuisance. There's plenty of brown sharks in the bay so you might have hooked into one of them or possibly snagged another ray.
@dmanx4104 ай бұрын
Yes it was a lot of fun. Spiced up the day no one else was catching anything so I’ll take it!

Why has the fluke fishing near the inlet and oyster channel not been good even when fishing outgoing tide with upper 70s ? seems like the bay fishing is out of whack as well last year I had great days near inlet through end of august now inlet through to mouth of oyster creek has been slim pickings
