I am for sure an HSP, but global warming does not touch me the way she describes. While it’s a concern, I’m more concerned about homelessness and racism and mental health, concerns and healthcare for everyone. So not all HSP’s are affected by the same things but we definitely all are affected. Thanks for the work you do this has all changed my life.

"Lean on your friends that understand your sensitivity." I don't have those.
@madelinebrennan7603Ай бұрын
I'll tell you. i've always been an extrovert in THIS respect: i get more energized/uplifted when I'm with people, and I can get down when I'm alone. but I've always only ever had 1 or 2 close friendships with people i can process deeply with and this is where I don't relate to many extroverts (I'm in theatre--there are a lot of us). So when you discovered that approximately 30% of HSP's are extroverts, I was like, "Thank you!" and "Of course! I've been found!" There may be research on this already but I wonder where differences in HSP's who are identified as extroverts vs introverts lie? My sensitivities and awareness have always been with people rather than physical environment. It's part of why I'm a good actor. And I believe I am less bothered than my introvert friends by environmental overstimulation, although that's changing as I age. I don't enjoy parties--not b/c they are overstimulating, but because I can't have what I consider interesting, meaningful conversations at parties. Anyway, it was a relief to learn that a healthy proportion of HSP's are in fact extroverts. Some of us are not as superficial as we are sometimes assumed to be :)

21:31 “We do well in bright light.” I have never been happier than when we moved into an apartment with big windows and lots of natural light. I keep the window shades open all the time because the light makes me so happy. And I have always found my mood dips in the winter when the days got shorter. I always thought I was just making that up, or that I should toughen up and “just be like everyone else”. 😳
@Shari2253 ай бұрын
I'm an HSP. I don't do well in bright light at all. I avoid going out into the bright sunlight of summer - it hurts my eyes and gives me headaches. I have daylight-balanced lighting in all the rooms in my home, so winters are not mood changers for me. (There is a wide spectrum as to what is sensitive for an HSP.) Hang in there - you will never be "like everyone else". The world needs us as we are.
@jj5jj53 ай бұрын
Yeah, I can also relate to the photosensitivity. I have had chronic headaches/migraines since I was a kid, and have had little success controlling them after trying dozens of medications/treatments. The one time I do close the window shades is in the late afternoon when the sun is low and shines directly into the apartment. It hurts my head to look at, and can sometimes trigger or worsen migraines.

This is such valuable and precious advice and things that I have naturally discovered and learnt over the years. I understand sensitivity as a continuum...from v low (de-sensitised) to v high (hyper- or extra- sensitive). I think we all have a natural/innate capacity but that this can be affected by experience, tone of experience and levels of external stimuli. It's definitely harder with all the informational and attention demands.

Interesting, i believe we in America have been following a path that is extremely difficult for male's,and that starts when we're born when we are taken away from our mother's to have our genitals mutilated, which i firmly believe has a lifelong emotional as well as physical effect on all male's that this happens too. What are your thoughts? I believe this practice not only effects the male but everyone he has interactions with.

I have been under mental health services for years and this has never come up. I feel right at home with this and know this is me. Infact I went to a psychologist once for an assessment and I told him I am sensitive. He said ‘I don’t want to know that’ He was a top phycologist at Chelsea and Westminster hospital. He tried to liken me to emotional personality disorder. I read about it and didn’t fit the criterias. One was lack of empathy and I have cried my whole life due to the wrongs of the world and the pain of others. It is dangerous to be so reckless about people’s lives and not listen to people.
