If HSP s are 20% of the population, does Bell curve logic suggest 20% are Highly Insensitive? Or, are these autistic?

Can somebody please tell me why recently everyone keep saying me that hsp is not a real things and is just a sugar coated way to call autism? Is very frustrating,because now I discover I’m a highly sensitive person every therapist, blog and friends is telling me that is not a valid term. Even once I asked a therapist if she knew the hsp therm and she told me she did,but once I stared going to therapy suddenly she told me that that term was no a real thing but just another way to call autistic people and this happen to me twice. help Context I live in a third world country idk

God bless this woman. I cried through a lot of this and realize how much I need to change my habits of using AirPods to drown out noise is almost counter-intuitive when all I really need to do is find some natural quiet space and zone out for a bit (which is increasingly becoming a luxury where I am, so much noise/chaos in major metropolitan areas).

So grateful for Elaine Aron’s work. It has helped me so much in honoring when I get overwhelmed and why. So now I know I have to stop and be by myself and be quiet for a while. It has also helped me in not being somewhat judgmental about people who seem unaware of what’s around them.

I found myself in everything that was said about highly sensitive people. Even about the fact that they are atheists, unbelievable! I mean, they feel it from childhood this aspect of spirituality. Thank you!

If you ever do a research on differences in sensitivity in siblings, i volunteer!! Ive always been "too sensitive", my brother not at all. So much so that on one instance when our parents got in a physical altercation, i was crying and he was laughing!! I was 3, he was 6

I am a highly sensitive person, and didn’t know it until my early forties. Right now I’m going through a very difficult time. We lost our mother in 2023 and my aunt this year. I inherited two houses full of family possessions. It’s been much harder for me to ‘let go’ of things than my sisters. If I got a dollar for every time someone has told me to ‘let go’ I’d be a millionaire. I haven’t thought of my difficulty with this experience in relation to being a sensitive person until now.

The thing that upsets me the most is human entitlement! It’s everywhere! In huge things like Bombing a country and killing innocents Killing, Stealing, Domestic Violence Medium things Driving badly Not giving way and speeding Or small things like littering Not putting away shopping trolley People believe they’re entitled to do anything they want Humans really upset me

Contrary to popular misconception, not all people are either introverts or extroverts. There is a third category, called "ambivert". Ambiverts are have traits which are about equally introversion and extroversion. I am an ambivert, but I spent most of my life as an introvert. So it's important to know that this spectum is not static, but changing over a lifetime in many cases.

I think i am a hsp. I think the worst thing with me is criticism from others. I get so dark and down afterward, it can be for the smallest thing aswell. I love music and animals and I like that side of the sensitivity but i can get very down at times with different things in life. All of the things described as being a hsp is me down to a T.

Not being a jerk, but I laughed so hard after hearing her describe the orange factory!! I heard sorting into S M L, & immediately thought "Nope, I can't do that because there's other things that have to be factored in the selection process." It drives me crazy, but it's getting a little easier with age.

I am for sure an HSP, but global warming does not touch me the way she describes. While it’s a concern, I’m more concerned about homelessness and racism and mental health, concerns and healthcare for everyone. So not all HSP’s are affected by the same things but we definitely all are affected. Thanks for the work you do this has all changed my life.

"Lean on your friends that understand your sensitivity." I don't have those.
@madelinebrennan76036 ай бұрын
I'll tell you. i've always been an extrovert in THIS respect: i get more energized/uplifted when I'm with people, and I can get down when I'm alone. but I've always only ever had 1 or 2 close friendships with people i can process deeply with and this is where I don't relate to many extroverts (I'm in theatre--there are a lot of us). So when you discovered that approximately 30% of HSP's are extroverts, I was like, "Thank you!" and "Of course! I've been found!" There may be research on this already but I wonder where differences in HSP's who are identified as extroverts vs introverts lie? My sensitivities and awareness have always been with people rather than physical environment. It's part of why I'm a good actor. And I believe I am less bothered than my introvert friends by environmental overstimulation, although that's changing as I age. I don't enjoy parties--not b/c they are overstimulating, but because I can't have what I consider interesting, meaningful conversations at parties. Anyway, it was a relief to learn that a healthy proportion of HSP's are in fact extroverts. Some of us are not as superficial as we are sometimes assumed to be :)
