En este vídeo, aparte de lo de siempre, lo que más me sorprende de Caballé es que tenía casi cuarenta años años y un considerable sobrepeso y, sin embargo, parece una adolescente gordita, fresca y guapetona a la que cualquier hombre se rendiría sin pensarlo. Ah, y su capacidad, que no sé de donde sacaba, para parecer más grande, más guapa, más lista y más graciosa que nadie encima de un escenario. Supongo que es lo que llaman "presencia escénica". Es algo que considero "normal" o, al menos, explicable, en gente como Corelli, uno noventa y tantos de tío, guapo y bien hecho, o en la misma Callas, con unos rasgos supermarcados, alta y esbelta como pocas, pero ¿Caballé? ¿Una señora de mediana edad bajita y rechoncha? Pues da igual. Encima de un escenario obra su magia y parece más alta que Corelli y más esbelta que Callas. Extraordinaria mujer. Lo que pueden hacer la sensibilidad artística, la perfección técnica, la inteligencia musical, el buen gusto, el encanto personal y supongo que más cosas que ni siquiera sospecho. Caballé era un milagro.

The ease of the high A's is something absolutely phenomenal.

The biggest operatic artist.... she made art out of everything she touched... nothing was just "sound" or "notes", everything was music and art when she sung it.... there are very good singers, and there are wonderful singers, and there is Callas, above everybody else.

My years at the university studying VOICE PERFORMANCE were spectacular. I studied with Daniel Nelson and William DuVall at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. While I took many lovely courses, preparing me for my 40 year career as a vocal soloist, voice and piano teacher and conductor, I spent a great deal of time listening to the glorious voice of Leontyne Price on any and every recording I could get. My entire study of "Vissi D'arte" was with Ms. Price's recording, providing me with so many beautiful vocal possibilities in study and performance. Ms. Price's honest, heart-felt and so beautifully articulated voice was a great inspiration to me. I thank you, for the many, many hours and years of study while I absorbed your technique, your nuances within a phrase and the sheer beauty of your voice. As a young soprano, I was often labeled as a "spinto soprano" and in a few instances, I was compared to Ms. Price! William Warfield judged me at the Regional MET Auditions in 1981 in Milwaukee. His comments were appreciated and very helpful on my journey. Although I was never fortunate to hear Ms. Price live in concert or opera, I felt very close to her through my study of her opera renditions on recordings. One of the finest and most beautiful women and sopranos made such a wonderful difference to audiences all over the world, and to me, Susanna-Maria Schaus. Thank you, dear Lady! And Happy Birthday wishes to you!
