I like that idea. I'm an chocolate fiend, but not an ambitious baker. And since it's not baked, it should be possible to make it in small portions, which would suit me very well. I gotta 'ration' my food as well, if for entirely different reasons 😆

I shared a bathtub of water with my mom and sister. And this was in the early 60s. We were young…and what would be considered “poor” today. But I never consider it so. My dad rigged in an old concrete base shower in the basement when I turned 12. Our house was almost 100 years old then.

I live in a former council house owned by my husband, we can’t modernise it so I’ve embraced the time it as built 1957 . It’s not even half style of 1957 but I embrace our lives exactly as it is and this is why I pay so much attention to your videos

I randomly started crying when she set aside the teddy bear. imagine being a housewife, your husband out at war, and all you have in his stead in bed is an old teddy while you don't even know if your loved one is still alive. my heart goes out to anyone suffering from war, damn

I miss the old time radio stations with classic tunes and light banter between songs. I used to have a portable radio using battery to carry to every room. I liked the AM mono sound from that little radio as my BGM.

I love this!! The couple that ownedy home before me were model train enthusiast. In fact, one of my upstairs rooms was the model train room, and he has all the electrical outlets placed accordingly. It was so interesting to see the pictures of the home before they moved out because you could see his handiwork. We still get some of their mail now even three years later including his model train enthusiast magazines. They don't live here locally so I just take them back to the post office but I do peek through them sometimes if I'm being honest lol

Where did the porriage, bread apple, potatoes, peas, spam etc etc come from? None of that was in your rations and you didn't explain why. Were these other things unlimited quantities or what? Im so confused.

I think that “trad” wifing gets confused with marriage from a biblical stand point where the man is the spiritual head of the household. The Bible entreats the man to cherish and live his wife as himself. The woman’s role is equally important as the center odd the household. We’ve striven to do this for our 39 years of marriage…and I worked because we needed 2 incomes. My husband is the best and is a true partner. Totally respect single moms, my mom was one, and those who need to work.

During the pandemic I started reading diaries kept by the public during the war for Mass Observation. If you haven't read them I suggest you read the diaries of Nella Last. They were among the few published (Nella Last's War, Nella Last's Peace and Nella Last in the 1950's. Not only are they excellent but a great source of info. I've been enjoying your channel!

I love the house. Are any of the upstairs windows wide enough for an emergency fire ladder? It's not too expensive and can literally save a life. They fold up under the window on the inside. Keep a waterproof/fireproof case with essential papers beside it just in case.

This is a cool time-traveling trip back to my Grandparents' young years. I always wondered how my Grandma Shirley kept up her beauty routine, which she maintained every day until her last decade ❤❤ Great idea for a video, especially considering how much plastic waste and screen time affects us nowadays.

The biggest con trick of the Blitz was the Blackout. It used darkness to instill fear in the population, because a frightened people us a compliant people. It caused mire deaths in the population than the bombs: more people were killed in teaffic accidents than by bombs. And it was completely pointless. The Germans would have unable to see their targets because of Britains persistent heavy cloud cover. And the Germans did not NEED to see their targets: they used Radio Navigation (" Blind Bombing")to work out when to drop the bombs.

no one was "overweight" back then. A good provider was important in a man. Women were expected to know how to cook and keep a home- domestic skills . My parents were married in 1950 and it lasted until death.

Yeah and people still habitually cheated. I don’t praise any marriage that lasts a long time because you literally don’t know what they’ve been through. Women were also shamed if they weren’t domestic.🤷‍♀️
