To be fair the GT4 come on Cup 2s or the Dunlop equivalent from factory. Cup 2s outer shoulders are designed to resist the wear and blistering you experienced with the 4s (which is a high performance 'road' tyre). I'm looking forward to the series but hope you'll make your fast road/track suspension changes using Cup 2s or an equivalent 'premium' track orientated tyre to do justice to the GT4 chassis.

It depends upon use but the range is between 5-19mm depending upon application, hardware, tyres and driver skill 👍 but always nose down

Amazing video as always. I had the M-Performance HAS kit on my G87 and I wasn’t in love with the ride quality. I upgraded to KWv3 and it rides day and night better. Obviously, a lot more money, but a true coilover system is amazing.
@SuspensionSecrets

Thank you! Yes the full coilover kits definitely offer even better handling performance than the HAS kits but the cost-benefit of the HAS kits is fantastic

Hey, is there a general guideline for adjusting the length of trailing arms? Do you typically increase the length by increments of 10mm - 15mm? Also, if you adjust it longer to improve traction, can you reduce the total toe-in for a rear-wheel drive setup?
@SuspensionSecrets
@SuspensionSecrets Ай бұрын
Hi thanks for the message. We have an exact length difference over standard that we advise to set the traction arm length too but we only give out the exact figure to customers on purchase of the traction arms. You can reduce toe slightly too with the traction arms fitted which helps to reduce the straight line drag from the rear tyres 👍

Wouldn't drilled disks help with the dissipation of gases and heat while braking as well?
@SuspensionSecrets
@SuspensionSecrets Ай бұрын
The stock discs are drilled and do help but drilled discs are much more susceptible to cracking with track use and abuse.

The issue with the 2NH kit is not fitting behind 18’s like a lot run 😢
@SuspensionSecrets
@SuspensionSecrets Ай бұрын
That is true but not the be all and end all. We will have a video coming soon on wheel sizes and the decision making behind choosing a diameter. A lot of people move to 18’s for tyre choices but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the best route to take 👍 bigger wheels do allow bigger brakes and larger circumference tyres that can manage surface temperatures and pressure rises more efficiently too 👍

We had some people say the same too 👍 we do like to press that pedal hard and late out on track though. And we have spoken equally with a lot of owners who have had the exact same issues as us out on circuit and have therefore moved across to the AP racing braking packages

I have the 2NH kit on my F82. I don’t track it though. Just looking for high speed stopping power on autobahn! How did you find the slotted discs over the oem cross drilled? They look like Girodiscs
@SuspensionSecrets
@SuspensionSecrets Ай бұрын
Yes we are on the girodsics now. There wasn’t a huge notable difference between the OEM and the Girodics with the cooling package fitted
@davetreanor5303
@davetreanor5303 Ай бұрын
@@SuspensionSecretsthanks for the feedback. My only real gripe with oem discs is the droning sound when braking from anything over 270km/h on autobahn. Discs end up having blue colour smear on them as they are probably heating up too quickly. They clean up after some daily driving. I’m looking to have confidence in them at high speed. Also may I ask did you bleed the abs modules with ISTa? I got steel lines and Castrol SRF when swapped to 2NH kit but pedal is still spongy.

Are you guys running with MDM mode on? Turning the traction fully off makes a huge difference. Even with traction just set to MDM, the brakes are being activated a lot and this causes them to overheat.
@SuspensionSecrets

We were initially running with MDM on but have had it fully off for a while now on track. It did help the length of time before warping but still warped on the blue caliper setup

What are your thoughts on the caster adjustable thrust arm polyurethane bush vs the camber plates, for an F80 CS that's primarily used on road but requires additional camber. Thanks.
@SuspensionSecrets
@SuspensionSecrets Ай бұрын
The camber plates definitely can’t be beaten in terms of performance improvement as the caster bushes offer better steering feel and some camber increase but the F80 chassis is so lacking in camber as standard that they really need the dramatic change that a camber plate has to offer. Even in the roads 👍 The bearing we use in our camber plates is designed to not increase noise or NVH on the roads too making it an ideal upgrade 👍

Apex uses the stock calipers for their Nurburgring track M4… And I think the (heavy) 666m wheels are bad for air flow and for brake cooling.
@SuspensionSecrets
@SuspensionSecrets Ай бұрын
Yes the Nurburgring is actually kinder on brakes than most race circuits as there are longer periods of time before pressing the brakes heavily. On circuits the time between heavy braking sessions are much shorter, leading to a much sharper temp rise 👍

100% on choosing the centre of the hub over the disc face for cooling. But.... On applications where it is very difficult to have this kind of cooling like a FWD car I have found having some cooling even to the disc face is better than nothing. It is a worst case scenario for sure but it can work just about if required.
@SuspensionSecrets
@SuspensionSecrets Ай бұрын
Definitely any cooling is better than none for sure 👍 for FWD we have found that ducting air towards the braking assembly instead of all the way up to it is a nice option as it blows air around the assembly which keeps the temperature differentiation quite even still 👍

Great video, love the content on the F80 and BMW platform. Do you have any recommendations for pads for G-series M cars that see mostly street duty with the occasional track day? Thx.
@SuspensionSecrets
@SuspensionSecrets Ай бұрын
Thanks very much. The endless pads are quite good for road and track use as they wear nicely and have less squeal when cold. For track we like the Pagid RL29 but they do squeal when cold quite a lot.
@DaleDoherty-cz9xm
@DaleDoherty-cz9xm Ай бұрын
Have you tried EBC RPX pads? I've heard the pagids still deposit giving the warped feel. I did a day on a stock f80 comp and swapped the pads out for the day and had no fade, a bit noisy and left a lot of metal on the wheels but worked really well, I swapped back to stock pads on the road and no warpage. Suppose it depends how hard you drive but I was really impressed.
@SuspensionSecrets
@SuspensionSecrets Ай бұрын
We did and we tried the endless too but all pads ultimately warped the discs. The issue was the size of the pads with the small calipers. As soon as we moved to larger surface area calipers and pads the heat dissipated better through the discs and stopped the warping. We span the discs on the lathe each time too to ensure that it was definitely the disc that had warped and not pad deposit 👍

Great informative video! Question: So for example: you have understeer at the corner exit. Which is the better solution? Change the rear coils to stiff the bump, OR put the swaybar to a more hard setting? I don't get when to touch the coils and when the swaybars.
@SuspensionSecrets

Great question! So the best way to categorise it is…if the issue is on corner entry or corner exit then adjust your dampers. If the issue is at the mid corner (apex) then adjust your anti roll bar 👍 hope this helps
