I think he felt that poolcue breaking on his shoulder a bit more then he should have, hence the confused face. He mistook it for being hit much harder then he thought which is why he is pissed. Then the detective walks in and its clear he's weak again.

Ok so here's how I see the psychology of what Chloe did: A key part of how she sees herself is a good detective who follows and trusts her gut. But from the beginning of the series we see life chipping away at that identity. 1. Dan was a dirty cop who gaslit her about palmetto. And Chloe never suspected him of anything more than not reading between the lines like she was. When that came to light it dealt a fairly large blow to her pride/self confidence. Lucifer was the one who encouraged her to trust herself. 2. Lucifer had her on a constant emotional yo-yo due to his own mental shit. It kept Chloe off balance all the time. While she trusted him as a partner and friend, her trust was tentative for anything more. She had no stable base with him even though the feelings were there. 3. Cain was able to manipulate her so easily because of this. He offered stability and a clearly defined relationship and she was tired of hurting over Lucifer's letting her in then pushing her away. She was confident that Marcus was exactly what she wanted: stable, dependable, honest, a good man. But then he did an emotional 180 on Chloe and told her she wasn't worth it(interpreted as she wasn't worth the effort rather Cain's actual meaning of breaking his curse wasn't worth hurting Chloe). The rug is pulled out from under her yet again, this time after she thought she was on rock solid ground and this let her guard down. Then it came to light that he was the sinnerman and yet another huge blow to her self identity. Marcus was a crime boss and killer and she had no idea. How could she trust herself if she yet again couldn't recognize a dirty cop? 4. She decided to turn to the one person who had always been honest with her, who despite how he saw himself, was obviously a good person at his core. And by God she was going to force that ground to be solid by defining the relationship and taking the leap to show Lucifer it was possible. 5. The devil reveal. EVERYTHING she thought she knew was wrong. Lucifer really was the devil. Which meant God and angels and demons and heaven and hell and any manner of other supernatural things were real when she had no belief AT ALL in those things five minutes ago. And Lucifer has kept this from her. He lied (by omission). The one person who she believed NEVER lied had kept a secret from her so large that her entire world was different in an instant. And if he lied about that, what else had he lied about? He was the one person who always told her she had good instincts and should trust her gut. Had THAT been a lie? 6. She can't trust ANYTHING anymore. Not who was good and who was bad. Not her own beliefs or instincts or even her own perception of the world. She is terrified (more of all of that than Lucifer himself I think). She goes into protect mode. She has her daughter to think of and she allowed this supernatural being who the entire world touts as the root of all evil into her daughter's life. And holy shit her daughter's best friend is a demon who has very often bragged about how much she loved being the best torturer in hell. Fight or flight? There's no way she could fight angels and demons. So she takes her daughter and flees. She needs information because even now, deep down, she knows Lucifer is not evil. But how could she trust herself? So she goes to the only place she thinks may have the most information about the devil. The Vatican. Surely she can find something there to either prove to her that the Lucifer she knows is a lie or they are hiding information that disproves their narrative. 7. Kinley is a fanatic. He is a manipulator who will do ANYTHING to accomplish his goal. He knows about Lucifer being in LA, has been keeping tabs on him. Which means he knows at least that Chloe is a close associate of Lucifer's. He recognizes her as being vulnerable and confused and sees an opportunity. Kinley is gentle and kind and doesn't think Chloe is crazy. He's an expert, Chloe is used to using expert testimony when solving crimes. He presents himself as rock sold while Chloe is scrabbling to find solid ground. He's making sense, when he's actually just leading her on a narrative he TRULY believes. But deep down she still knows her Lucifer is nothing like that. But she can't trust herself. 8. The whole time she's part of the plot to get Lucifer back to Hell she is uncomfortable. Now that she's back with him, nothing is making sense again. Kinley has to nudge and reassure her more than once. And when it comes down to it she refuses. She's still terrified because nothing is as she thought it was. Everything has changed. Except Lucifer. He's still acting the same, still at her side, caring about her. He's her lifeline even if she's afraid it will snap at any time. Sometimes it's hard to see the motivations and gray areas of a character's decisions when WE have information the character doesn't, and the character has learned from experiences we've never had to deal with.
