My man, I have one of these EL8’s coming in this week! I am running it from an Avalon 737. I preferably do Pop, Hop Hip and Rnb music. Do you recommend me turning off the compression off all together on the Avalon? Should I only mess with the input and output on the EL8? A little guidance would be awesome!
@RecordingStudioLoser
@RecordingStudioLoser 13 сағат бұрын
That 737 is an opto. So that will be a different flavor. You can set the distressor the opto mode. But it doesn’t quite get there. You can run the distressor more like a the aggressive mid forward comp and see what you dig mixing the two.

Even though this is a condenser, I wonder...even at its price point, it makes the SM7B redundant for podcast use. You can even have just two of these mics for four guests.

On that cad equitek e200, they have an internal rechargeable battery that might need replaced. Or you might need to let it sit hooked up to phantom power for a few hours to recharge the battery. Theres also a switch on it to turn charging on and off. The equiteks sound awesome.

I'm a customer, not an employee, and I'm an old (60) newbie. My experiences have been positive so far. Granted I often order online and pick up at the store, but I've never had a problem or felt I wasn't wanted. That said, I have occasionally waited rather a long time to ask questions or pay at the register, but only because folks were truly busy. Hope I haven't just jinxed myself! Good vid, appreciate the insights, thanks.

As was to be expected, the 12k combo does not sound like 99% better. Much less difference in mono though there is an upper mid forwardness in the 57 that I would not prefer. The expensive stuff sounds bigger and wider. I guess a second 57 would have bankrupted you? Maybe next time!

The DM20s sound fantastic on toms, with that transient / open airy skin strike texture. But, they do sound even better combined with dynamic. If I was using the DM20, and had enough mic pre channels, I'd probably pair them with a cheapish but beefy dynamic mic, with that more drum sculpted tonality, like an Audix D4. Could put it on tom bottom, phase reversed, if room or bleed is an issue. Wasn't as convinced with the snare. I always end up coming back to mics like the SM7b for that. Or SM57 paired/strapped to a good open condensor, like a KM84 with pad. The DM20s don't have tons of low-mid info, and I wasn't convinced that you could realistically EQ that in. Better to bring that in naturally with a suitable dynamic, especially when they aren't expensive. Was thinking, some manufacturer could put together pre-paired mic capsules like that, with one moving coil and one small diaphragm, combined into one body, with an active preamp mixer with a blend control. Would save on mic pre chanels and you could dial in your snare blend tone to set it and forget it.

I’m demoing this mic right now against a few others and I have to say it glows like nothing I’ve heard personally. Especially on an acoustic guitar recording it pics up things I’ve simply never heard before. I can’t wait to hear what it can do on my vocals. It’s hands down incredible, I highly recommend trying it out so far! I’ll keep it over my LT and UA I just picked up for sure.

I’m really enjoying it. The larger heavier capsule masks those weird micro transients from certain sources. The circuitry in the mic can either be so clean or gnarly. Pretty versatile.

You know what I was searching for is a mic that can record audio in front of the stage for the entire band. I use a video micro with a deadcat on it for recording loud live musical performances at bars in Nashville and it surprisingly does really well. But I thought maybe I would upgrade to a zoom 3 with a dynamic mic like the sm57. Im not sure how far it will record from though. If you have any thoughts on mics for my situation let me know. Thanks.👍🏼

This may be the best audio video I’ve ever seen on KZbin. Major props to you sir for the advice. Also the one about just restarting things is GOLD. The amount of times restarting the daw or the interface has immediately fixed the problem is almost all of the times and nothings feels worse than trying a bunch of other things for a simple reset to solve the issue 😅

Just did a three song session this past weekend and changed out all the tom heads an hour before -- batter and reso. Fun. Solid knowledge of all the elements of the space you oversee is important IMO. You can not know how to keep simple 4/4 beat on a kit but you should know how to tune a snare drum. Customer service, of course -- great vid -- I like the mix of studio talk that is gear/music centric and these vids that are related to the grindy/everyday stuff that's not always funniest part. Ok, back to comping drums.

This was very informative. I have an affordable GAP R1-A, which is actually quite nice, especially on female vocal - but damn decent on guitar cab and drum room too. A. I'm already saving up for a Beyerdynamic M160 to use for guitar cab, along with a dynamic mic. And for mono drum overhead, along with Line Audio CM4 pair. I was planning to get a second later to use for stereo drum overheads. It's nice to know that they also sound lovely on acoustic guitar. Later, I'll pick up a Royer R-121 for guitar cab, which would free up the M160 for other uses. If it sounds nice on clean electric guitar, and acoustic guitar, I wonder how a stereo pair sound on upright piano?

My problem with GC is I have been in there and standing and looking at the Fender wall for 15 minutes or more. And not one person ask if I wanted to see anything. And now they lock up all the high end guitars, so you can't even get something to try on your own. So I don't believe I will ever go into a GC again. If no one is going to help me, I might as well just order from on-line store. At least they call you. And I do not like Sweetwater but what other choice do you have?

My guy. All respect. I mean that. However, I have been doing this for over 26 years (god I’m old). I have had cases where clients have had issues with files for whatever reason similar to CD Baby. Never once have I lost a client because of it, nor was I viewed as an idiot. Every single time it has happened (I think two or three in 26 years) the client simply hit me up, explained what happened and asked if I knew what the issue was. To which I could simply say ‘oh yea it has to be this, try the master labeled (insert sample rate/bit depth, file type etc).’ And it’s been fine. It sounds like you aren’t the problem. The clients you have gotten that judge you over something that’s not your fault, are the problem. Fire those clients. Haha

Great vid! RE: CD baby, don't worry still gets me too! 99% of my clients don't use it; but it's always those 1% where I need to remember; YEAP get the 44116 across! RE: Tuning drums; I alway start by tuning opposite lugs (like changing a wheel on a car). I find if you're moving the head tension any reasonable amount when you go in a circle, that tension will shift by the time you go all the way around. So instead I try to match opposing lugs to get the overall tension right; then tweak adjacent ones to match perfectly.
@RecordingStudioLoser
@RecordingStudioLoser 12 күн бұрын
lol. It’s that 1%!! I was taught to do opposing when bringing up to tension. But when everything is close to go in a wheel. I’m no drummer. Just an engineer pretending to know how drums work.
