My first console was a Tascam 320B! Loved the pre and EQ in that board so much that a few years ago I picked up a 308 (8ch version) just to use as outboard preamps. Old Tascams upper end stuff was pretty great.

Thanks for the answer on the mic question. Lauten is on my radar, for two of the mics you mentioned: the snare mic, and a main vocal mic. Whether Clarion or Atlantis - though also eyeing the Chandler TG Type L, on Mill Sounds tip. Now, I have a working setup of: Beta 52A for kick, SM57 pair for snare/gtr cab, Audix D4 for floor tom (and bass cab), Audix D2 for rack tom. And a pair of Line Audio CM4 cardiod SDCs for overhead. Thinking of getting a United U47 for kick-out. And Lauten or Beyer M201 for snare top. I have an SM7b for dynamic vocal, guitar/bass cab/snare bottom or hi-hat. And would like to add an RE-20 or MD-421-II for bass cab / floor tom. For Vox, have JZ Vintage 67. Also good for kickout, guitar/bass cab mic, or mono room mic. Would like to get ribbon mics. Thinking of a pair Beyer M160s for overheads, room and guitar cab. A cheap pair of GAP R1-As, with Royer R121 for guitar would also work. Would like upgrade from the Line Audio CM4s to Beyer MC930 or better yet Soyuz 013s for overheads and acoustic guitar. And to get a pair of Austrian Audio OC-16, for toms, piano, stereo room. Anyway, I appreciate your channel, it's super informative and candid .

@@RecordingStudioLoser I notice that Fred Again and Anderson Paak have been using lots of Lauten mics in recent videos performing as duo. Seems they've been using mostly Lauten sets for drums, including the snare, tom mic, and also I think the Clarion. Maybe they are sponsoring these artists. If so, could be genius marketing. And maybe Lauten's might be about to start getting more attention. But that's double edged sword, because it becomes a bit like how any guitar pedal John Mayer even blinks at, goes immediately 2-4x on the second-hand market :)

Everyone, I'm 62 and not in best of health but I'm getting into music "rap to start with because it fits my storytelling as I currently write, and develop AVN's, and the one I just finished is on a son that has been setup to be the heir to the families 12 billion dollar fortune but he wants to be a political rapper because he's against his fathers beliefs and business practices. But because of that I had to do some very basic rapping just to get through him starting out as a beginner "in the novel mind you" but my audience loved the penmanship for my writing rap. And I'm learning all of this on my own and have decided to document my journey as I'm sure it eventually will be beneficial to someone else that's old thinking about starting a music career. If I can pull it off then you can too.

Copper is Copper - as long as it's in spec theres not going to be much of a difference - even less if you are not running 100m plus. If you are buying cable you should be looking for: - is it in spec - Anything over $1 a meter (in bulk) should be in spec - does it have a braided shield - the wrapped copper shields don't hold up as the are garbage the moment you get a single break in the shield - does it have neutrik xlr - the XX Series is the industry standard because they hold up to abuse for more or less 10+. the build cost to DIY is $12 for connectors + $1 a meter.

That "I am too old at 32 to start a mixing/mastering career" question was so cute. I'm not gonna say how old I am, but, I'm not 32 and I quite my job last year to push into this full time in my little studio. Don't stop learning. thanks for the video! always good stuff!!! in regards to the age question...I'm almost 50, and I'm finally at the point in my career where I can afford to get some decent recording equipment, and I'd love to make it my "full time" gig, but I'm also at the point in my career where I'd need to make a pretty good amount of money doing recording if I wanted to leave my "day job"...and that's the difficult part...I can finally afford to get some nice gear, but I need to keep my "day job" to fund the fun :-)

I'm over 50 and building two sound treated large sheds to begin a career in recording. I already have most of the equipment but no place to use it, hence the sheds. I will be leaving my well-paying job within a year to focus 100% on studio life whether I'm financially ready or not. Sometimes one has to make a drastic change to create happiness and contentment. It is never too late. Follow your passion.

I don’t have everything figured out bro. I’m also not going to claim to speak for the entirety of one camp. I have people I call friends of many faiths, and no faith at all. I will say we probably agree on more things than we don’t.

Once you get older you hopefully you start to respect other peoples beliefs, and that being religious is not nessicarily lacking critical thinking or being stupid. The smart thing is to realize we dont know anything at all. If it brings you peace believe what you want, as long as its not hurting anyone. I just think its so stupid looking down on religious people, and im not religious at all. For me its just about believing in something bigger than myself, which is a good thing for my life and the ppl around me
