Bro -- great pipes! Cool tune. These two mics get used all the time in my little studio, love em. I have a pair of M160s -- on guitar cabs with a 57 (or something similar) and interestingly enough I like to pair it with an M88 as well. I've used the 160s as OH's with really good results, acoustic and cello. The M88 as a kick in or out (love it with the 91a as well) guit cabs like I said, and on the right vocal.

@@RecordingStudioLoser is weird… I only related the m88 as a kick mic back in the 90s (I did a fair bit of live touring bands in Australia) most used d112 or beta 52, but the m88 got THE best results (imo)

the dual micing on the guitar is actually nicer than what I anticipated. the mics are different enough to where you can almost pick them out when not soloed. The 160 being back a little doesnt seem to get absorbed by the other mic. Ill mix your next one! For someone who has done decades of self production work.... I feel this pain because youre almost always self producing!

You may or may not know this, but Beyerdynamic recommends using the M88 with a pop filter (they make one for it) if you use it with kick drum. There are a bunch of Gearspace forum posts about dudes blowing up the diaphragm in the M88 whilst using it as a kick mic. Anyways -- thanks for sticking your art out there -- I know that takes some courage. Cheers!

GREAT MICS! Been using my pair of m160 for over a decade. Don't forget the m201 to complete the "Beyerdynamic drum package" - m160 on oh, m88 on kick, m201 on snare :) m201 can also do great things on many sources - wonderful for some voices. m160, I really like on some female vocals also. Another plus is (since I like to record in "odd places and in the field" - these mics do not pick up a lot of the surroundings. Thanks for the video, dude!!

Yes, Beyer M160's are the best mics for overheads. (Runner-up is Coles 4038's.) The M160 is also my favorite mic for guitar cabs, and always was, long before Royer made every recording engineer aware of the how good ribbon mics work on guitar cabs. The M160 is a superb all-around mic (excels on violins and horns). The Beyer M88 is another awesome mic, and it did work well for the vocal style on the recording you presented. However, it doesn't have the articulation or depth of a great tube mic and would not be my choice for vocals on 'beautiful' or melodic music. Jeremy, although I'm not a fan of the kind of headbanger music you presented here, still I want to compliment you on your magnificent performances and your mix. Great job! I'd love to hear more from you! Sadly, I could not distinguish one single word of the lyrics, so the song could be about the Irish potato blight or the price of pistachios in Venezuela for all I know. Even the title of the song did not make itself known. But considering your level of professionalism, I gather in that genre of music it is detrimental for the lyrics to be heard and understood?
