English was my second langauge and I studied it completely by playing games (a lot of them weren't available on my native language back then) and grind the hell out of them. I wasn't efficient but it did the job done. But when I first became interested in Japanese, my brain exploded when I saw this gibberish instead of letters called kanji.

Also, when I learned German my teacher told me my accent was extremely thick, so, my voice never wavers

I was bored so I decided to look up a video to learn the basics of Chinese. When they gave examples I remembered your Google Translate trick and went through the video learning the pronunciation of these example sentences. It was really fun! I couldn't get it to understand my attempt at 我吃过北京烤鸭 though. I kept pronouncing it as 我去过北京烤鸭 apparently. Ah, Chinese. Ah, humanity. :P

A little tip I can give you for rolling your R's is instead of slightly curling your tongue upwards like you do when rolling R's in Japanese, you push your tongue slightly upwards just behind your teeth. You can practice rolling your R's that way by doing the contant engine sound with that method.
