Nothing like a Baker tranny. I have an OD6 on my 1989 FXSTS and also have a DD6 in my 1988 FLHS. Both have engine work and the trannys are icing on the cake.

Wanted to come to the most recent video to ask y'all a question. Is the transmission casing for a left side drive going to be the same as your standard RSD?

This is great, but need to specify which years this eccentric screw is applicable. Supposedly they have a fixed screw after 2000.

How about if the travel is 0,085” and it still drags? New oil, plates etc, even swapped the whole basket from another motorcycle? I’m getting crazy here..

Not sure of your bike configuration but some items I would check are your primary chain play not sure if you have a manual or auto chain adjuster. I would also check the clutch hub bearing, you stated that you swapped out the whole clutch basket assembly with a used one. You didn’t state if you replaced the clutch hub bearing. Did you check for severe wear steps on the clutch basket and clutch hub that the pressure and friction plates ride on. You stated that you have a good pressure plate travel but that only ensures that you have adequate clearance. The plates could be hanging up on wear steps as stated above. Also determine if the primary oil is correct for the type of friction plates you are using, the oil could be hydraulic locking the friction and steel plates to each other thus when you pull on clutch they do not separate. Lastly make sure your primary oil is set to the correct level specific to your year and model, too much oil will create that drag effect. Hope this helps. Have a Happy New Year

Question for you. I am working on my Evo 95 5 speed. I replaced the the shift pawl due to me not being able to find 3rd and 4th. Well I have it back together and semi, and performed a shift test. I find that it's struggling to go through the gears. I took off the clutch cable door and took the rod and forks out to see if I didn't put them in right however, it seems to be fine. Yet, it's still struggling to shift nicely. Could it be that little position that locks it into gear. I noticed that it seems that the top cover helps to keep back pressure for that locking piston. What would you think it is? I also found the adjusting screw for the pawl is not the correct one. Instead of a Allen wrench it has a 1/4" head on it. Which limits the throw to the shift rod. New one is on the way. TIA

It's funny how they were very specific about which way the eccentric is supposed to be and which way the pawl is supposed to move when you turn the screw because when I went to adjust mine it was the opposite way, and it came that way from the factory like that. It shifted fine for 15 years before it recently developed a minor shifting issue, so I guess it didn't make that big of a difference, at least not on my 6-into-4.

Thank you for taking the time to share some of your knowledge and experience. You're definitely a humble man and when you say that you're a "student of" such and such, it to me means you're always learning and even after your 30+years of experience, you are still humble and learning! Thats awesome! I work on bikes post medical retirement from the Army and went to school for motorcycle technology and that's great and all but I need to know how something works in order to properly diagnose issues and not just throw parts at it. Test, don't guess is a saying I learned from an instructor and that always stuck with me. Sorry for rambling but again, thank you Mr. Baker for all that you do!

I know I'm late to this. I just installed the DD6 to my 2006 Ultra. When I adjusted the shifter pawl I did it Exactly as they say in the instructions and in this video. In my first test ride today it would not go into first gear. At all. So I started in 2nd. It would shift ok all the way up to 6th. Downshifting it would sometimes miss. From 2nd to neutral was very easy but then no 1st. I sure hope I can tweek the pawl adjustment without too much disassembly.

Hitting the mainshaft with the mallet doesn't do any damage to the side door bearing? The Harley factory service manual says to always replace the side door bearings if the shaft is pressed out. Hitting the shaft with a mallet to slightly move the shaft is ok?

This saved me a lot of headaches. Once I opened up the gap and got the tool on the face came right off. This should be a note in the service manual.

Harley-Davidson does not want you to know that so that that way you can take it into the steelership and have them work on it. That's why it's not in the manual

No oil on the bearing . A complete video showing how to remove the bearing and changing the spacer for a larger /smaller one would have been great That video is needed because what if someone install it and the dial indicator shows to tight or to loose ? Maybe you have a video showing it .
