At check in, the hotel will place a temporary charge on your credit card for incidentals. The charge will be reversed upon confirming your room(s) are fine after check out. I don’t know how much the temporary charge will be. But I would expect the amount to depend on the number of rooms booked and somewhere in the range of $100 - $200 per room.

I've been there 5 times, but I can't recommend it as a good hotel. The reason is because of the additional costs that cannot be understood. Basic lodging costs are also very expensive. However, you have to pay extra to use the swimming pool and sauna. Happy hour doesn't live up to the reputation of JW Marriot's. I only recommend breakfast, robes, and the view of Dongdaemun from up close. It's best not to expect any upgrades for Platinum members.

We are planning on washing our clothes while we stay after this hotel. Did you use the washer/dryer by chance? You mentioned it’s 300yen for washing every 15mins. How does that work?
@TadashiTravelToursАй бұрын
Hi! Yes, I did use the washer and dryer at Chapter Kyoto. Sorry if my video description of the washer and dryer was confusing. From what I remember, you pay ¥300 for the washing machine which goes through a typical wash cycle and ¥300 for 15 minutes in the dryer which might not sufficiently dry a big load of clothes. I think I needed to do two 15-minute drying sessions for about 7-8 days worth of clothes.
@joycer7Ай бұрын
@@TadashiTravelTours Sounds good! Thank you! We are going for 2 weeks and I was thinking of packing two weeks worth of clothes and I did mock packing.. and my luggage was overweight. So, I’m going to just pack for 7 days and wash it. Great video by the way! 😊
@TadashiTravelToursАй бұрын
@joycer7 ah for a 2 week trip, I would suggest 8-9 days of clothes which gives you a set of clothes to wear on the day you wash 7 days of clothes, and maybe an extra day of clothes just in case. Enjoy your Kyoto trip - that is exciting!

Hello, I will be stopping over in Taoyun airport and would like to go to one of the Plaza Premium Lounges. How come you chose the lounge in Zone A as opposed to A1? Is one better than the other?
@TadashiTravelTours2 ай бұрын
Hello. Good question. The Plaza Premium lounge in Zone A is an enclosed lounge (has a roof) whereas the Plaza Premium lounge in Zone A1 is open which makes for a noisier environment. Zone A1 lounge is smaller. The last time I visited Zone A1 was in 2019 so I don’t have a recent experience with the food offerings.

Fun fact; on the southern foundation wall, in the lower levels, specifically the engineering and boiler rooms, is the remnant of a liquor smuggling tunnel that ran all the way to several buildings in the Gaslamp, and there also used to be Turkish baths underneath the Third avenue sidewalk. The latter were sealed off with concrete, and the tunnels, to my knowledge, are still there, but locked-up. When I started working there back in 2008, one could also easily sneak into the 11th floor elevator room, which used to be a proper guest room, and get a free night haha

Quick question -- the couches in the grand executive suite, are they sofa beds or just regular sofa couches? If they're just regular sofa couches, do you know if it'd be comfortable enough for kids to sleep on? (We're a family of 4, considering this suite to stay in)
@TadashiTravelTours3 ай бұрын
Hi. I remember the couches being regular couches, not convertible to beds. The Kaohsiung Marriott website quotes the Grand Executive Suite’s maximum capacity at 2 and says “sofa” in the list of furniture, rather than “sofa bed” like in other hotels’ descriptions. I thought the couches were comfortable. Although there is only one long couch and one arm chair, so it would be tricky to sleep two children with that configuration. My suggestion would be to ask if they can bring an extra bed to the room but the Marriott Kaohsiung Grand Executive Suite website has some confusing wording about rollaway beds, “Rollaway beds not permitted Cribs permitted: 1 Maximum cribs/rollaway beds permitted: 1”

@VivianMart-sb8yg Hi. sorry correction: the Air France website says they will equip 12 Boeing 777 with the new business class seats. i mistakenly interpreted that as “all 12”. a The Points Guy article says you can determine if your Air France Boeing 777 has the new 2023 business class seats by, “The way you can tell if your flight will have them is by looking at the seat map. The Boeing 777s with the new seats do not have a first-class cabin. They only have 12 rows of business-class seats at the front of the plane, seven in the first section and then another five in a smaller cabin behind some galleys and lavatories. The row numbers range from one to seven and then nine to 14 (with rows eight and 13 missing).”

@@TadashiTravelTours yes, it really did. We frequent Waikiki on month long trips and were curious about this hotel. You’re video is the best review on you tube of the Laylow. Really concise, clear and informative. I can’t get the rate as low as I’d prefer, as of now lol, but if I can locate a price drop before we leave this summer, I’ll book this hotel for sure. Thanks again! 🤗
@TadashiTravelTours6 ай бұрын
Thank you for the very positive feedback - that is the goal, concise and informative! I understand. The room rate is a huge factor in the value proposition and getting a fair price is key. I have the following suggestions for booking at The Laylow: You can make a flexible booking now which allows you to cancel the booking until 1 or 2 nights before the reservation starts. If you find a lower rate at a later time, you can cancel the original reservation and rebook at a lower flexible rate, or book at the prepaid rate if you are confident in the price and dates. On the points side of things, Chase recently increased their sign up bonus on their Chase Marriott Boundless card to five free night certificates with each certificate redeemable for up to 50,000 Marriott point properties, and the option to pay up to 15,000 Marriott points per certificate to get the award night. You could be able to redeem certificates and points to get an award night at a property as expensive as 65,000 Marriott points per night. The Laylow's award prices seem to fluctuate between 52,000 and 70,000 Marriott points per night, with summer charging those peak 70,000 Marriott points per night.

How would you rate/compare this hotel with Tokyo Marriott? With Bonvoy points redemption, this hotel is definitely slightly cheaper.
@TadashiTravelTours6 ай бұрын
I have not stayed at Tokyo Marriott Hotel but based on what I know about it, I think Tokyo Marriott Hotel and Sheraton Miyako Hotel Tokyo are both fairly close to bus stops and train stations. Tokyo Marriott Hotel is about ~8 minute walk away from Kitashinagawa Station and ~15 minute walk from Shinagawa Station. Whereas Sheraton Miyako Hotel Tokyo is a ~7 minute walk from Shirokanedai Station and a free shuttle away from the larger Meguro Station. Tokyo Marriott Hotel’s base room is the same size as Sheraton Miyako Hotel Tokyo's base room, at 323 sq ft (30 sq m). Both hotels have a club lounge. I think Sheraton Miyako Hotel Tokyo is better value because its cash price and points price is less than Tokyo Marriott Hotel. But Tokyo Marriott Hotel is a bit newer than Sheraton so that might be worth the premium to some travelers.
