I really don't think it's that weird that Yolei appeared in the dark ocean, she just needed a anchor, and that anchor was mainly Kari, but also Ken. Yolei bears the digicrest of Purity, directly relating to her empathy but also pureness of emotion. As Mimi, pureness of emotion is not always a pretty thing, it embodies feelings to an extreme. Basically Yolei is an emotion amplifier and receiver. At first she wasn't influenced by the dark ocean, but when it affected the way she communicates her emotion with Kari and Ken, this also pushed her to her own limit, an emotional limit so strong and pure that she began to be affected by proxi, because both Kari and Ken are important people to her. If anything Yolei serves as a great hint: You CAN get to the dark ocean without the original requirements, but someone as empathethic and pure of emotion as Yolei shows you are in danger if you're not prepared, nor have the fortitude for it. Also TK could overcome the effects, because, again, strong desire to see someone, and he's the partner of a Holy Digimon, and the bearer of the Crest of Hope, a different kind of Light than Kari that is able to disperse evil thoughts. It works amazingly well as an allegory for depression, and in the case of Maki and her partner digimon, how it can lead you to certain doom, or worse, death.

I like the idea that omnimon is perfect because its joining ideals finally coming together in harmony. Chaosmon doesnt work as leomon and darkdramon are too independent and opposing. The rivalry being the only thing that brings them together. So when they fuse both of them are fighting for control but neither wins

Dorumon is where I dropped off digimon in 2004-5, it was so confusing and contrasting to the digimon I knew, aswell as the x evolutions etc. now it's the most simple of new things to understand about digimon, but this was a departure for me. I never really left a di kept playing every game I could but I never dived deep into lore or anything.
