Special education is a joke. You special education teachers just pass your kids along. In Florida, special education students dont receive a high school diploma. They receive a certificate of completion. Shame on you and the Florida school system.

If you want to work in Special Education, you will need to major in Special Education. You can focus on what population you want to work with from there.

Hell yeah!! Sadly the number of progress reports that are populated with the text " Student is doing a GOOD job" is mind numbing. They forget an IEP is a LEGAL document and DATA is essentail

Thank you for this content. If it is okay to share, what made you want to become a SpEd teacher? I have made a career change myself recently and am in school to become one. When I substitute teach, the mild/mod classes are the ones I enjoy the most.

Congratulations on your move. I am currently special education teacher in the Bay Area of California, but grew up in Florida and have some military in my family as well. I will tell you you are correct in the California is extremely expensive for housing. If you can get onto a military base that will be cheaper for you especially if you have PX privileges, etc..

Congratulations! I’m currently ending my first year as an elementary SpEd teacher (resource/inclusion). I am also a recovering “people pleaser”. Because I say NO to things now I’m constantly asked “are you okay” or “why are you mad”. Actually I’m NOT! Can’t wait to see your new journey!
