I've had an EX6 since last June and have only had a couple issues. One was using Kingsford pellets, think they might have been moist as my temps were all over the place. Once switched back to Lumberjack, had none of those issues. The other issue is the hopper, I just do not like it as I get pellets between the hopper and cooker no matter how careful I am. Have never had a bridging issue though. The last issue was the last firmware update seemed wonky but they new update seemed to have fixed it. Other than that, I love the thing. I do a 5 minute clean before each cook, keep it level, and check the pellets every few hours. The food this thing puts out is off the hook with smoke rings, bark, color, and smoke flavor.
@CookingJoeFoods2 жыл бұрын
Definitely issues i see in the pellet market, glad it's working for you though. And yes, the Smokefire definitely has a different smoke profile compared to other pellet cookers.

Thank you for this vid! I have been going through youtube and manufacture sites to try to narrow it down. My wife and I drove through the Seattle area stores trying to answer the BBQ/Smoker question. Was considering a Pit Boss because I would also like a griddle, but my impression was that it was a high priced Char-Broil! NOW, Weber has come through with this new "Stealth" edition, and ASAP I will order one! Went to the Weber site to order and the site states that it is coming soon!

First of all I’m glad you’re back. When I was debating on getting an SFEX or a PitBoss, your videos where the deciding element. As nice as the stealth looks it’s not enough for me to replace my EX6 gen 2. It always performed like a champ from day 1. No fires, no pellet jams, no problems with temps… just yesterday was 23 F (Boston)… my EX6 is outside and took 12 minutes to get to 600F Rock solid. One note regarding the Stealth… the hoper seams considerably smaller…. Will it take 20 lbs???
@CookingJoeFoods2 жыл бұрын
That's how I'm feeling about it. Although the hopper seems better, my grill works fine. Yes, the UK website states 10kg which converts to about 22lbs.

Some people are tribal with brands. Lol. My grill is still working fine but I can see why some things were changed. I had stated on my 30 day review, a better design would've been if the auger was at a 90° angle, that's exactly what they did. Seems like they're listening. Thanks for commenting. 🤜🤛

The software issue that you mention is still an issue. I purchased my SmokeFire EX6 on 08/28/21, after two months the screen began to freeze (3 times) during cooking. This is unacceptable especially when cooking certain meats. I came out to find that the EX6 had froze and dropped in temp so I had raw chicken at an unsafe temp. Having to shut this device down, wait, and then fire it back up takes too long when food is at an unsafe temp. I then discover an error code (E7) motor failure...after two months...a $1200 grill. Unacceptable! Weber wanted to send me some replacements to fix myself or pick the grill up in 4 to 6 weeks and then wait on a refund after Weber receives the defective grill. Thank goodness for ACE Hardware in Odessa, FL (Susan is the manager) gladly took this defective grill back and I was happy to purchase a Traeger Timberlne 885.

I love Weber grills. I have 40 years of experience with them. I couldn't say a bad word about them... until now. My wife bought me the Gen 2 Smokefire. Just put it together yesterday and attempted to season it today. On the first attempt, the grill made it to 400F, then smoke started to pour out of the pellet hopper. I poked around the pellets in the hopper and a bunch of them dropped down into the auger feed. Then, the temperature started to drop, and eventually, the grill went into automatic shut-down because the fire went out. I let the unit cool down, cleaned out the firepot, and tried again. On the second attempt, the grill only went up to about 200F and went into shut-down mode. I let it cool down until the app told me it was OK to power off. I then took everything out of the cooking pot, thoroughly cleaned the burn pot, emptied the pellet hopper, blew out the auger tube with compressed air, vacuumed out all of the ash, and unburned pellets from the bottom of the cooking pot and the grease tray and then made my third attempt at seasoning the grill. Third attempt...ditto second attempt. At this point, I just allowed the unit to cool, powered down, unplugged, and covered to protect from expected showers. I don't want to deal with this thing anymore. I'm calling Weber on Monday morning and looking into returning this poor excuse for a grill for a refund. I'll base my future opinion of Weber on how they deal with this. I don't want to hate on Weber. I have a 12-year-old Weber Spirit gas grill that still operates and cooks perfectly. I've replaced parts here and there over the years, but that's to be expected because I use it a lot. I have a WSM I bought used from a neighbor. It heats up quickly and once you get the air vents adjusted, it holds temperature rock solid and smokes to perfection. I've literally taken Weber grills out of the trash and used them for years with no issues. Everybody fucks up. I'm cool with that, but I'm counting on Weber to do the right thing... We shall see.

Hi Joe, Have been watching all you videos on your Smokefire ex4. I am going to spring for the 2nd gen model here soon. I was wondering if you could give us a video on cleaning the grill, especially after a greasy cook when the flavorer bars are really greasy and dirty. Just want to see how you do it and how easy or hard it might be. I am tempted to use drip pans for everything for ease of cleanup........but then also want to get maximum flavor by having the flavor bars exposed and utilized. I hope you haven't given up........you haven't posted in awhile, you do a really good job with your videos, hope you can keep it up.

Hi! Sorry for such a late reply. It's ooni's dough recipe. I will say, the recipe should be used and guideline as every flour acts differently, key is playing around with hydration level. With some practice, you'll find the percentage that works for you. 😊

About to pull the trigger on one of these, have the software issues now been resolved? Did you get the replacement hopper or not bother as the pellets fed fine for 10hrs cooks? You had any issues with grease fires in the last year?
@CookingJoeFoods3 жыл бұрын
All software issues have been resolved. I did get a slide for the hopper but I never installed it, works fine without it. I think i can get 12 hours of smoke at 225 before I'd have to move pellets around. Good enough for as i usually wrap meats. So I'm already out there. No issues with grease fires.

Recent purchaser of ex4. This is an exactly precise overview of the SmokeFire grill. Bought smaller for quicker sear heat up time to use more often. Still held 16lb brisket, drip tray for water and twenty wings on upper rack. Keep it clean and it will deliver without flair ups at any temp. Smoked about 80lbs of pellets thus far. It’s basically a porcelain laptop that smokes meat. Seriously hot sear. Heavy duty.
@CookingJoeFoods3 жыл бұрын
Glad you like it.
@kurtak94523 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the review. I have had one for six weeks now and I am taking it back to Lowes today. The main problem is flameouts, about every other time I use it. Pellet bridging in the hopper is the biggest problem which shuts-down the grill. I did a brisket on Christmas eve. I started it at 0400 hours and went back to bed. A few hours later, I found it at 65 degrees IT and off. It caused me to delay the dinner 2 hours. It does sear nicely, but the grease tray never catches the grease as it mixes with the ash and forms gunk that sticks in the grill.

I have owned Weber kettles and gas grills since 1974. I have been very faithful to Weber because of quality of grills and cook quality. I’m just not sold on the SmokeFire so far. I have a very basic Traeger and it works fantastic, no problem with searing. I keep a cast iron grill pan on it at all times. When I want to sear I just move meat to the cast iron grill pan, and I just turn the Traeger to high and let it do it’s thing. I so wanted to be excited about the SmokeFire, but with what I have seen so far it may need a little more time. ☹️☹️☹️
