Check the probes and leads visually for damages like cracks, frayed necks and exposed wires. 3. Ensure that the device or circuit under test is not energized. 4. After testing, discharge the residual voltage retained by the device (cables, motors and transformers due to capacitive effect) simply by grounding the device terminals for a minute.

We use long reels of wires during earth pit resistance testing. The length of lead wires is based on the earthing system. For single electrodes it is 10 times the burial depth as per thumb rule. For array it is 10 times the diagonal length. Wires of such long lengths have self or inherited resistance which has to be deducted from the earth pit resistance value in order to obtain the real value. This video describes the procedure for finding the lead wires resistance value.

Variacs don't like shorted loads. So before connecting a load to Variac, ensure that the load is not shorted. The input and output are not isolated like a conventional transformer. So be careful while handling. The output load side must be protected with quick blow glass fuse of appropriate rating to protect the Variac.

As wattage increases the amount of tungsten used is less. 18 watts uses less tungsten than 10 watts. So it's cost cutting for the company. If the real wattage is mentioned people will not buy it as they think 18 watts is too bright as night lamp.

Those slots are isolation between various high-voltage and low voltage parts of the board. Air is a very good insulator whereas the surface of the PCB can become low resistance in the presence of condensation or moisture or spikes.

When the air is wet be careful with water contact elec appliances like water heaters, washing machines, water pumps, wet grinders etc, as the insulation resistance of both the appliances and your body goes down and you are at greater risk when compared to normal sunny season.

Sitting on the cross arm @ "o potential " and pecking the phase line @ "240 potential" in rainy season with it's wet body at low resistance is a perfect recipe which has lead to this scenario. Sorry.

A 2 pin plug or top of a metal bodied appliance is dangerous as it can be reversed into the socket. It's not foolproof. We don't know which of the two wires is connected to the appliance switch. Means non polarised. So we have to find which wire is connected to the switch and mark the corresponding pin of the plug as Phase with letter P or a red dot with marker pen. One day it will save you.
