IR Testers or Meggers are widow-makers unless you follow the below safety precautions: 1. Always wear gloves. 2. Check the probes and leads visually for damages like cracks, frayed necks and exposed wires. 3. Ensure that the device or circuit under test is not energized. 4. After testing, discharge the residual voltage retained by the device (cables, motors and transformers due to capacitive effect) simply by grounding the device terminals for a minute.
