Memphian here. The mid south colosseum was home to the famous Jerry Lawler/Andy Kaufman wrestling feud. Lots of wrasslin’ history! Thanks for the vid.

As of yesterday, Memphis 901 FC has officially left the building. Not to a new stadium next to the Liberty Bowl but to Santa Barbara, California because of the stadium deal completely falling through. The state offered $350 million in renovation money but all of that’s going to the Forum and Liberty Bowl renovations. AutoZone Park is getting just $5 million from the city and county to do MLB mandated renovations and improvements before next season but got nothing from the general assembly in Nashville. Now, there’s a very real possibility that a gem of a minor league park in midtown Memphis will be sitting empty in 2026. I’m hoping Redbirds team management can find the money to do the upgrades needed to make AutoZone Park a great place to watch a ballgame again and keep the team in Memphis for decades to come. I’m from Tupelo and although it’s been years since I’ve been to a Redbirds game, I’ve had a wonderful experience every time I’ve been to a game and the year after I go, the Cardinals have gone to the World Series. I just hate that they’ve let that place go down so much that fears of potential relocation have become headline news over the past 24 hours no matter how much team management denies the rumors. I don’t want the Redbirds to leave town and I’m rooting for team management to find the money to do what it takes to keep the team in Memphis.

The Mid-South Colloseum was also famous for Pro Wrestling for over 40 years! Check that out when You Do Tampa Bay as they also have a venue which hosted Pro Wrestling too! 😉

That memphis Bass Pro shops is world famous, I grew up in California and a lot of us kiddos had at least heard picture or stories of a pyramid shaped Bass Pro Shops. This was when you could look stuff up and find out but you'd find 17 different conflicting sources. Also nobody ever cared that much to make a huge deal out of it other than "yeah I know it" "I think I saw a pic one" "sounds kinda familiar" which in fairness was about as popular as anything got in that high school.

The mid south coliseum was great and for the longest was a premier venue for professional wrestling back in the territory days. They used to say if you can make it in Memphis you can make it anywhere. Not because it was hard here but because everything was based off of the crowds reaction to you which helped launch Macho Man Randy Savage to national popularity and picked up by Vince and the WWF.

2:00 - That is a VERY unusual feature in ANY ballpark, the LARGE foul territory right up to the foul pole. Usually, the wall angles towards and meets the line, this one has a big foul territory. All fields should have this.

Beginning to think you might actually make it to a Stadiums of Northwest Arkansas video (and you'd get a rare qualifying indoor AND outdoor track facility).

Crump Stadium was the predecessor to Liberty Stadium and is now a downsized high school facility. Between Philadelphia (at long-gone Municipal/JFK Stadium) and Memphis, the LIberty Bowl was played in Atlantic City, NJ, indoors at Convention Hall (now the downsized Boardwalk Hall).

U know a stadium's architecture is bland when the see-through shot clock thing comes up in just about every overview of the arena...
