Chesterfield’s tenor is a great sounding bell too but it’s hard to get up right so I have to give it some more pulling so they don’t ring the back 4 up together in peal they sometimes do it but usually they do 8 and tenor then 7 and 9 then the front 6 get rung up in peal the tenor is 25cwts D they get rung down for the chimes I think the clock bells are 4,5,6,9 and tenor and they leave them down so tourists don’t hurt them selves because it’s a unique tower and tourists like to go up so they do tower tours I was going to go up in 2015 before I started if I had gone up I would have learnt to ring there 9th is the hardest bell there 9 and 10 are the hardest 2 in the tower

That is only when two people are ringing the bell up that it will go up the right way. If it’s rung up like here by myself the clapper will stop striking as the bell lifts off the bottom. The clapper is not counter balanced which is the main reason of the issue.

@wrogers433 3 жыл бұрын
Indeed along Ashton bells certainly have a good classic bellow to them. Which makes them so much better than some modern rings of bells. These are truly fantastic bells to ring. Rehung during 2010 on modern self aligning ball bearings. They managed to notch up 107 years of continual use from there preliminary rehang in 1903 to 2010. They go extremely well indeed. When I took this video I had the door open to the bell chamber and the ringing room door open. And the big bells here like to shout down the stairs. Certainly when we are back to ringing. Come and ring them. Or book them for a peal or quarter peal.
