Chesterfield’s tenor is a great sounding bell too but it’s hard to get up right so I have to give it some more pulling so they don’t ring the back 4 up together in peal they sometimes do it but usually they do 8 and tenor then 7 and 9 then the front 6 get rung up in peal the tenor is 25cwts D they get rung down for the chimes I think the clock bells are 4,5,6,9 and tenor and they leave them down so tourists don’t hurt them selves because it’s a unique tower and tourists like to go up so they do tower tours I was going to go up in 2015 before I started if I had gone up I would have learnt to ring there 9th is the hardest bell there 9 and 10 are the hardest 2 in the tower

It certainly sounds good this bell. The door to the belfry was open when the bell was rung up ready to go up and turn the clapper. Which makes the bell sound better

Long Ashton we a wonderful sounding peal. Have to love Taylor Enos of that period. I hunk the prewar bells sound better than post war bells. Don't know why but postwar sound more refined where as prewar bells see to have hat classic bellow and roar.

Indeed along Ashton bells certainly have a good classic bellow to them. Which makes them so much better than some modern rings of bells. These are truly fantastic bells to ring. Rehung during 2010 on modern self aligning ball bearings. They managed to notch up 107 years of continual use from there preliminary rehang in 1903 to 2010. They go extremely well indeed. When I took this video I had the door open to the bell chamber and the ringing room door open. And the big bells here like to shout down the stairs. Certainly when we are back to ringing. Come and ring them. Or book them for a peal or quarter peal.

How do you get bells up so quickly
@wrogers4334 жыл бұрын
Ringer Thomas skill and technique and with a bit of brute strength. With a bell of this weight at 30.3.23cwt or 1.5 tons you need all of that strength and skill.

I can get a 25cwt tenor up fairly quick when I go to chesterfield on a Sunday morning when there’s not enough ringers at my church it’s not that easy to get up right with me only being 16 it’s relatively easy to ring full circle

don't bump the stay
@wrogers4334 жыл бұрын
Luke Meanwell rather difficult not to do when the clapper is on the wrong side of the bell. As it does affect handling with this one quite substantially. Luckily it’s never a violent bump on the stay.

@@wrogers433 still be careful
@wrogers4334 жыл бұрын
Luke Meanwell I’m always careful, might not look it but always careful. It will be lovely when those tuneful tones ring out again! For this video to be taken, the door to the ringing room and belfry was open. Which means the bell sounds even better! The stairwell makes a good echo room for the sound yep travel down and through! 😃

Think it went up wrong
@wrogers4335 жыл бұрын
Lucad, it certainly did go up wrong, I’ve been very close in having the tenor go up the right way last year. But missed a bongs when doing so!
