Hi There. Interesting video. I know the feeling of toasted feet with the heat coming through the bulkhead. Its ideal in the Winter here in Scotland but not so much in summer. I done a bit of research and eventualy found a couple of pictures of a MK2 that had an air dam fitted under front subframe directing difused air into the engind bay to push hot air out.... My MK2 has same as yours but auto controlled etc... JMD

How did you manage to remove the grille without removing the rad?

@nrw34260 There is a panel underneath - just big enough to get your arm up behind the grille amd undo wing nuts which hold the grille in. I didn't know that - first time I took the radiator out and it was torture

I have a triple carb Austin Healey which is all factory but not yet running.Any good oiling the pivots or adding a return spring?. I have a similar problem on an MGA where one carb does not completely shut off when you lift off the throttle. Everything checked for freedom of movement so still investigating.

I am no expert! If everything is original, it should be made to work as it was designed to be. But in my case, nothing was original so I had to nut something out to make the return spring more effective. My videos are fairly dull, but I always hope at least there is one thing that people see that is useful to them!!

It's worthwhile replacing the steel fuel lines with copper tubing. The steel lines eventually perforate. The tank can also be cleaned quicker using Tetra Sodium EDTA mixed with a little crystalline Citric Acid, which is added to bring it to neutral pH. It'll work better than White Vinegar, leaving bare steel.

Who put the triple SUs on? Originally E Type and Mk10. Nice to see PS. The original oil used was like syrup. Six thou big end clearance needs viscosity. Put plenty diesel and engine oil down each plug hole and leave for a few days. Turning by hand was good. Next thing is to wind over without the plugs in until the oil pressure comes up, then some more. This ensures bearings, chains, cams valve stems etc are all fed. Then have a go at lighting it up, no revs until pistons have warmed up. I have started dozens of unused diesel and petrol engines without damage..

@howardsimpson489 Owner before me put them on. They are a headache yo set up and the fuel consumption is terrible. But it's quick. Your suggestions about reviving an old engine are exactly correct. I am so behind in my videos!!

Love watching your videos as I am restoring a 3.8 MKII on my channel (jagvette1) but C'Mon there are NO millimeter nuts bolts etc on a Jaguar of the 60's they have proper sizes in fractions. in the northern part of England they can't pronounce castle either they also say kassall. Too late now but when I did my front discs I used and impact gun and on the inside place a screwdriver blade between the nut head and the disc. You can't have too much grease $20 is a lot cheaper than new bearings seals and a stub axle. The washers you are talking about are shims to centralize the brake caliper on the disc, kind of important 🧐😉😉

Really good video with good lighting and positioning. I suggest new pads with new disc is imperative as the (new) old pads will have worn to the old disc surface. Also important is to replace shims correctly. The large bolt should be torqued up then use a feeler gauge to check shim size under the small bolt arm location. If you don’t get that right, you chance fracturing the steering arm bracket either when you torque up the small bolt or worse, when you hit a pot hole.

@Mechautoinsight thanks! You are correct and I always change the pads as a matter of course, but the ones in there literally look almost brand new. When I get to drive the car next week, I will see what it's like.

This literally is me and my husband on a Sunday, working on the Jags, fixing fiddly little jobs ourselves. Nice work, by the way, really enjoyed watching this. I'm going to use the takeaway container idea. I don't know how many times my husband has asked, where's the whatever, and it's gone missing. I like that you tackle these jobs and not handball them to a mechanic. Money well saved!

Maybe too late for you, replace the brake fluid and ALL rubber components with DOT 5 fluid then it does not absorb moisture, BUT do not short cat ALL rubber components MUST be replaced and all lines flushed. Also as the President of the Anti 'Basically' society, I challenge you to NOT use the word 'basically' it's not needed

Michael I'm not a car person however, you mentioned that the chrome was pitted. Question - was the battery left connected and flat in a negative earth system? Negative earth battery systems in the flat state uses O2 depletion from the atmosphere over time and rusts the chrome work. This happened to an old postie bike in my shed over a couple of years. When I was a kid English cars were generally negative positive earth systems to avoid to O2 depletion.

The correct pill for the Mark 2 Jaguar is an SAE 20/50 which is still available in the UK. Thinner oils are unsuitable for the XK engine and will result in excess oil consumption and engine wear. The gearboxes with overdrive require SAE 30W oil which is much thinner than conventional gear oil. This is basically lawnmower grade oil single viscosity and still readily available.

That oil is a good quality product, but too thin for a Jaguar XK engine, particularly in a hot climate. Next time try to find a 20W/50 semi-synthetic oil, readily available in the UK, but I can't speak for overseas markets.
