Born and brought up in Gorbals and castlemilk , lived in England for a very long time , I often laugh to myself when reading comment of the famous Glasgow people and not so famous that Glasgow was great and they love it so , none of them even live in the country now never mind glasgow

Me and my mates use to go there with the air guns shooting pidgeons and each other in the now restaurant and in the tunnel, it was all open in the 70s, it led on to the highland station that is now filled in and has a kids play park just after the tennis club on highland road

I started school at the age of 5yr old I was a sickly child with asthma and the young lady teacher's would make me hold out my hands and hit me with a thick leather belt most days of the week this went on throughout my primary school life it wasn't just me it was just the boys the teacher's didn't like a some of the girls my age now 72yr old

Fantastic compilation of photos of our city's evolution...had to pause on many ...feel quite melancholy now....imagine how the glaswegians of decades ago would view the towering banks and rapacious global corporations taking over the city.? Really enjoyed that Appreciated 👏

isnt it interesting how things are now going back the same way...not just glasgow but towns and cities all over the UK are boarding up empty shops, poverty is widespread..the country in absolute meltdown

I’m 63 and a Maryhill boy now living in England for 44 years it might be wonderful old Glasgow but when I was a kid it was horrible old Glasgow. No money little food wild packs of dogs running everywhere miserable conditions for the working class. There’s no nostalgia from me good riddance to that time and I’m happy that Glaswegians have a better opportunity and hope for themselves now.

Thanks for your input 👍 yes such a miserable time (that I personally did not experience but can respect as different to mine - 1990s) people say that the era I grew up was rough and that is why I highlight the truth through this documentation video of archive photography. It has been a tough environment for centuries if not more which has created a strong character and spirit in the Glaswegian, that is rare.

Fully proud to have been born in Bridgeton in 1956, lived and PROPERLY educated in Drumchapel for the the following 11 years. I've been in Sydney since 1971. Clearly I am somewhat biased, but, in my view, Glasgow is the very best city in the world by any useful measure you may use. Charles

It's a view over Townhead and Royston beyond. The bridge at the bottom of the view is at the top of what was Glebe St over the bridge is Pinkston Rd. I lived in the tenement next to the bridge at 177 Glebe St when I was a boy of six. The only thing that is still there is the other bridge at the far end of the basin. That bridge is where Castle St meets Royston Rd. It has a public footpath under it now where the canal used to run. Here's a wee fun fact. You can go under this bridge in Google Street and you can see the grooves on the south side walls where the ropes from the horses that pulled the barges cut into the walls over the years.

I think the frutiger version has a goldfish, this one looks slightly too minimalistic for it to be frutiger aero, but this is a great find due to these rarely being made anymore 😁👌
