Jesus isn't God, he is the son of God - in a more literal sense. This follows the whole structure of the bible about examples of/on life. This also makes the sacrifice momentous because to send your son down to earth with Freewill, with all the crap that was going on, is wild. The inception of the trinity really messed Christianity up, even inserting the mention of across hundreds of yrs later is shameful - no proof and the cross was symbolic of War. Constantine's soldiers had their shield emblemed with crosses - it all contradicts Gods words.

23:07 the problem that seems to me, about that explanation, is that he uses “i am” which is present tense. In the other contexts it makes sense that the person saying that might just be saying “it’s me” but if that was what Jesus meant, he would have said “before Abraham was, I was” using the past tense, but it appears he deliberately uses the present tense “I am” in a way that makes the sentence a lot clunkier, seemingly just so he can directly quote exodus word for word

Its weird im a struggling Christian... And i find a conversation between two atheists somehow more engaging than say two christians or a christian and a athiest. I wonder why that is. I guess i dont really respect so called "authority" very well or find it more compelling to believe someone who feels more like myself in a struggling sense as opposed to someone who thinks they know it all. Interesting and thought provoking conversations fellas. I like how Alex's mind works. Please do more on this subject and any other you two see fit.

So much frustrating about this conversation, even if it is always cool people are talking about Jesus. Raine just not understanding what the NT says is fine but Alex knows better than just to share the weaker arguments for Christianity. Plus, Alex keeps asserting that he is pretty well versed in the New Testament but isn't so familiar with the Old Testament; when it is the Old Testament that informa SO MUCH of the language and context of everything said and done in the New testament.

00:15 There are texts like this, there are very different versions of Odin, Thor and even Balder.(If we count Kalevala as related) Thats just from one "dead" pantheon of gods, there are so many stories of the same deities at different times/geographies and they do change.

one night i was scrolling through my phone, feeling like i’d never figure out why some people just seem so magnetic. then i came across this book, Magnetic Aura by Takeshi Mizuki, and something about it caught my attention. reading it was like turning on a light in a dark room. it’s not about pretending to be someone you’re not; it’s about unlocking the energy you already have. trust me, this book is worth every page

i used to think being magnetic was just about looks or confidence, but i couldn’t have been more wrong. i read this book called Magnetic Aura by Takeshi Mizuki, and it totally changed my perspective. it breaks down the energy and mindset behind true attraction in a way that just makes sense. once i started applying what it taught, i noticed people reacting to me differently almost instantly. it’s seriously worth a read.

For me the best argument for existence of a Higher Being is the existence of physical laws in the first place. Like what makes a particle, a particle? What gives it properties? The argument of "who created God" for me is a void one, as creation and causality are inherently connected to time and time is not something that just "exists". Even in the theory of Einstein, time is not always there and you can achieve zero time in certain frame of reference within our universe. If you have a concept of higher dimensions or even an entirely different system of governance, you can solve all those "who created whom" problems easily. We don't have this system and constrained to our reality will probably never even glimpse at it, so adding such a system in place might be called "lazy" thinking and be compared to what people called "magic" in the past epochs, but the fact is that we can only reason about what we see in our world and the fact that there is even something to be "seen" for me (the properties of the universe, allowing the existence of photons) is good enough proof, that the universe did not just spring into being. Of course you could also go with the "infinite" white whole/black hole loop cycle of the universe and just ignore the fact that properties even exist, by just factoring in the infinity of a potential multiverse, but I count this also as another form of "lazy" thinking, as it references additional unknowables to solve the problem of being with a different answer.

Fictional characters aren't real but the things they say can affect reality and peoples actions. Now how does that work. Non-real things can affect real things. If a viking believes that a rune on their helmet is protecting them in battle, and fights better as a result - then hasn't that rune done its job successfully?

So he doesn’t believe in God but spends all day talking about him to the point he can feed and clothe himself and make a name? He forms his entire life around god to define his identity and wants to know if God is real rather than adjusting his goggles as to what real/unreal are in actuality? Got it. And he’s a philosopher by trade? Got it. Am I missing something? It seems to me his lack of belief has not stopped (whatever god is) from giving him everything he wanted. He is just looking at it cockeyed. Maybe he is too close to the matter to notice

Further study of the Tanakh resolves the open questions about the promised Messiah. It was the foundation and backdrop of everything Jesus said and did. Jesus said “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.” The context of Jesus’s life, the historic moment of his appearance, places him at the center of God’s plan to redeem his people as promised in the Law and the Prophets. And the historic reality of the physical resurrection of Jesus is the proof of his authenticity and reliability. Jesus is not just another in a long string of exemplary, divine teachers. He is either God himself or an abominable fraud and a fabrication. Isaiah 44:24 Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, who formed you from the womb: “I am the LORD, who made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens, who spread out the earth by myself, Isaiah 45:21-22 Declare and present your case; let them take counsel together! Who told this long ago? Who declared it of old? Was it not I, the LORD? And there is no other god besides me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none besides me. “Turn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other. You can’t understand Jesus or the Gospels without knowing and trusting the Tanakh. Hebrews 1:1-2 Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.

And, more importantly, who were these other three gospel 'writers' that just simply decided not to leave that part of the story in their version? Isn't this part of the story really significant?

Agnosticism is the same as Schrodingers cat. It’s a cop out unless you’re less than 18 years old or uneducated. God’s existence is a yes or no belief. I expect it will take time to develop a belief but until you do formulate one on your own, Pascal’s wager would be the most reasonable position of belief.

At 5:45 alex points out a supposed biblical contridiction that simply isnt their even from a non- theistic point of view. The apparent contradiction between Matthew and Luke regarding where Jesus told the disciples to go after His resurrection can be explained by understanding ancient literary techniques. Matthew emphasizes Galilee, while Luke focuses on Jerusalem, but neither is necessarily contradicting the other. Luke, especially in chapter 24, compresses events for narrative flow, which is clarified in Acts 1, where he states that Jesus remained on Earth for 40 days before His ascension. Meaning there was ample time for these events to take place. Ancient writers, like Plutarch, often structured events thematically rather than chronologically, prioritizing coherence over strict timelines. Thus, the differences in the Gospel accounts reflect literary compression rather than factual contradiction. Alex makes it seem as though the resurrection and ancension happen on the same day and not over a 40 day period in the biblical narrative so hes creating this contridiction when its not there

Yes, there are humans who suppress the Truth they know in unrighteousness. - Romans 1, 18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; 19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. 20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: 21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. 24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

I absolutely love hearing people (esp Alex) dismantle the teleological watchmakers argument. It's always funny seeing believers just shrug it off like their entire worldview wasn't just shattered. I think this is a defense mechanism for believers in which their mind won't let them understand it. For me, even though I've heard it 100 times it still gives be chills hearing that the watch didn't just arise out of nowhere, it evolved over billions of years.

'I am' can be name of God in Hebrew or Aramaic, in Greek it wouldn't seem to be Jesus saying he is God. A Jewish person wouldn't say words I am God. Can tell from reaction of religious leader that words 'I am' on various occasions could be Jesus using name of God, including in Mark during final trial of Jesus.
