WHAT is the point of a girl telling you what guns she owns and likes? I mean it...what a waste of time to listen to ..... hey I have a lot of pair of socks....and these are my favorite...and wow one pair socks is on loan from a friend and someday I need to get my own pair just like it.... See why this is worthless content?

I really like the 12 o'clock mounted light, but ended up moving mine to a cantilevered 10 o'clock position, even though it puts the weight further forward because that way the light is a barrier between my leg and the hot can if I go hands free after shooting. I really don't want to burn myself

Regarding a larger gun to learn shooting mechanics, would you recommend a Walther PDP steel frame? Or is that going too far and a regular Walther PDP would be better in this role?
@tessahbooth2 күн бұрын
I wouldn't say that would be going too far! Either could be a great option for that role.

Couple of comments. X300 on the front of the gun, hey unless it's outdoors and long range it'll do as well as any other expensive light so don't pay those people any attention. Regarding the LVPO I can be pretty bougie, but in my case I'm running a Primary Arms scope because when you max out at 6X it's plenty enough for anything up to 200 yds (for me) and if you are getting beyond that it's not really what a LVPO is for so you are throwing away a strength and inheriting a weakness.

I'm glad to see you ended up with the DDM4V7. At over half a century of life under my belt, and about 3/5 of that time shooting/building ARs, my DD is BY FAR my favorite GP rifle. The only other one in the running for me is my MK12 clone, but I don't really consider that a GP rifle. Great video!

Hi Steve here from Australia. You approached the match as you should have & well done on the B grade. Just one thing to ponder over is the Virginia Count stage. I compete in IPSC so i assume the rule is the same, only prescribed amount of rounds to be fired, but think about this, if you know you have a miss for instance thats 10 points for the miss & 5 points you did not score 15 points lost. If you know you have the miss a quick backup is advantages , you only get 10 point procedural error but you gain back the 5 points scored there fore only a 10 point loss . This has to be done quickly as time will negate any advantage...just something to think about...once again congrats on your B grade

If one is going to own a 5.56mm AR for defensive use because it is suited to militia use an M4 clone like those from DSA or FN seems appropriate as most soldiers and police use such rifles. That said, a 5.56mm rifle is too much gun for home defense use IMO so I'd prefer a smaller and lighter 9mm AR like the CMMG Banshee Mk9 SBR 8" (or the pistol variant with an arm brace) which uses Colt type mags.

I don't care what anybody says. X300U at 12-O'clock on the handguard with a red dot is AWESOME, especially if you put irons on your rifle for backup. You can flip up your irons, and it will go right into the slot where the trigger guard on your pistol would be. It keeps things FULLY ambi, and the light is balanced in that spot. Screw the haters. That's not a bad move.

My favorite AR is my Franken rifle. It started as a $60 lower and a complete upper kit. Since 2016 I've replaced every part of it except the upper receiver and the bcg. Most recently swapped the mil-spec trigger for a Triggertech Duty.

I thought and did the same for bringing first time shooters to the range. I went with the FN502 .22, the Holosun HS 507K, and the silencer is the Erector from Q. I love it and so does everyone that shoots it. Next to my H&K SP5 (suppressed), it’s my most fun gun to shoot! Both are fantastic experiences for new shooters without ear pro and so little recoil, it’s just the best new shooter experience.

I know exactly what I want for an AR. The grip needs the extra strap above web of hand, the adjustable stock that locks so it doesn't wiggle, so probably Magpul for both of those. A quad rail hand guard, stainless 16" barrel (shorter when NFA gets repealed like it should). If I go with a red dot, it'd have to be one that works without batteries, otherwise, iron sights. Basic ass vertical grip.

The Razor Gen IIe 1-6 should be lighter (as is the Gen III 1-10) than the original Gen II 1-6. That mount looks like a porker too, the Warne X-Skell is pretty svelt while still being durable. I am not sure what rail that is on your husband’s current build either but it looks super heavy. You can pick out a handful of parts that make small weight differences and make an overall build that is much more wieldy than a similar build where weight wasn’t considered. You won’t have to sacrifice reliability either.

I also don’t like brick heavy LVPOs. Still rocking a 1-4 tr -24r accupoint because it’s 18oz with aero mount, the 1x is 90% as good as a red dot, and no batteries needed. Offer not good if you need to regularly go past 300m (no holdovers) but you can dial the thing if you really need too. It tracks well. The matches and use case for mine mean I basically never stretch it past 300 and most is 100 and in. If that is your use case I’d recommend you give it a try. It’s old tech and can be found cheap used.

One thing I noticed when I put a cheap LPVO on my rifle was not so much the weight, but the location of the weight, as it made my rifle feel topheavy. Not a real issue with practice and training, but still noticeable, even though I'm a fairly large man in pretty good shape.
