At time 7:11 you said you were turning up the heat but you didn’t mention to what level. Medium? Low medium? If your stoves have numbers on it, how many and what number did you turn it to? What kind of wash did you pour over your yarn? Dish soap or a yarn soap? Last, whipping yarn over your shoulder to get the tangles out? Maybe in your next dying video can you show us the whipping process so we can see what the yarn looks like before during and after the whipping? Sorry for all the questions. They are by no means a critique of your video, I am just a detailed oriented person, and you have inspired me to possibly try finding undyed yarn and dying my own. Otherwise, if I didn’t want to go through that process, I wouldn’t be asking questions in the video was a good video to give a generalized view of how dying yarn happens. The colors of the yarns after they dried were beautiful. Thanks for inspiring me.

@CrochetCavalier13 сағат бұрын
It’s really added a whole new level to my joy in crocheting Tamar to be able to choose the colours from our garden or the beaches where we live and then create something. I have to say though I’m an accidental dyer. I have no real plan. I choose an item in the garden and then try to recreate the colours. Or sometimes it’s the other way around. I dye some yarn and then walk around the garden trying to match it with some plant or flower or foliage. The vibrant blue yarn I dyed ended up matching some blue glazed pots we have. The fun is in the process.

Wow! What a beautiful blanket and the colours are so calming! I have been crocheting for 51 years, thanks to my Mom, Grandmother and Aunty who took pity on me when I was 5 and my brothers and cousins woukd not let me play with them as I apparently had girl koodies lol. They just didn’t like that I was better and making and throwing snowballs in the snowball fights. But it was nice to be inside warm and dry as the ladies crocheted fresh hats and mittens for the “hooligans and heathens” so they stayed outside playing and they got a break lol. All theee ladies are gone now but the skills they taught me live on and have been passed on to other family members also. This blanket is just beautiful! I have not done the feather stitch in quite some time, but remember when I first learned it, ohh the shoulder pain if I did it for too long😩 I wonder if going up a hook size would help ease the strain on your neck and shoulders, or maybe using an ergonomic hook would help, giving you more support in your tendons. I love different stitches where you have several loops on the hook and are using several rows for the stitches like the feather stitch and when my Nieces and Nephews kids ask me to make something, I do (I love that they love homemade gifts and actually request them). One wanted me to make her a wearable mermaid tale blanket but she had her own ideas of how she wanted it so I had to make it as she wanted and used a combo stitch with lots of loops over several stitches and rows. It looked great when it was done and think she might be a natural designer in the making but omg my shoulder, neck and forearm were killing me before I was half finished. Even cbd lotion wouldn’t help! A friend mentioned the ergonomic hooks so I got one in the size I was using for the mermaid tale and wow did it make a difference. It may help if you have not tried it already. Thanks also for sharing the designer’s name for the rose baby blanket, I will be going to check it out. I simply ador the colour combo of your yarn. I don’t find many with calming colours in Scotland, they all see to be really bright colours like a rainbow lorikeet. Pretty in some designs but certainly not calming and relaxing. Thanks again for sharing and showing us, this is one design I must make. And following your border design as well as it just completes it so well. Do you block your blankets before gifting them? I love finding out how other crocheters finish their blankets. I hate blocking but find it does make a real difference to stitch definition. Anyway, I hope you are well and enjoying a new design that is not hurting yoy.i truly appreciate your tutorials, I could spend all day watching you crochet. And I think I am weird and losing it, I have yt on mute as it is the wee hours and hubby is asleep, but watching you stitch and I caught myself counting stitches as if it was my crocheting. 🤦🏻♀🙊 I guess it means trying to go back to bed, I must be over tired. 😆 Keep up the great work you are so talented! 💖

Thanks Shelley. I use the Clover Amour hooks which are ergonomic. They are my favourite. I get neck and wrist pain if I’m using yarn that is too thick or that requires alot of effort to push the hook through. This yarn is beautiful and soft. It’s from Bendigo Woollen Mills here in Australia. I do block shawls and smaller items on foam boards with pins but not so much blankets unless they need it. This one is for my loungeroom and because the yarn is so soft I felt it didn’t need blocking.

Oh my gosh these are gorgeous, thank you so much for sharing! I just found your channel and had to subscribe!! 🥰 I have to tell you, I normally avoid granny stitch like the plague, I have never been a fan but you have changed my mind on them as this is absolutely stunning! I am so impressed that you dyed your yarn yourself, I wish I knew how to do it. Your colour palette is so beautiful, colourful without being garish, they are relaxing to look out and feel naturally botanical, I hope that makes sense. lol. How lucky you are to be living in Australia, I have visited several times and just love the pace of life out there. I am American but reside in Scotland. I am hoping you have lovely weather atm, it is about 5c here and very wet! But that means an excuse for sitting inside and crocheting to keep warm and dry. I cannot wait to get started on the coushions and as someone else mentioned a tablecloth would be perfect. Thanks so much for sharing, I cannot wait to see your other work! Happy Holidays! 💖

I’m only new to dyeing. I tried dyeing about 8 years ago but still had kids at home and I was working too. Now I’m a bit more free I had a lovely lady also from Australia mentoring me with dyeing. Jill from @Gumleaf_crochet_and_yarn have a look at the beautiful things she makes too. I’m trying to develop a theme for my dyeing. My husband is an avid gardener so I’m using our garden as inspiration for my handdyed yarn and also we live in the tropics on the coast so lots of beach inspired colours too. These are REALLY lovely squares! I'll use this tutorial to make some w/ worsted weight yarn, but I think I'll also use some white & colorful size 10 thread (some call it mattress thread) to make a table cloth. I can see these making an edge & maybe an inner border. You'd have to venture into my crazy inner universe to see what I mean. 😂❤

That made perfect sense to me, I must be in the same universe lol and it sounds like it would be gorgeous when you are finished with it. I wish YT would allow folks to share pics (or allow the channel owner to decide if pics should be allowed) so we could share the completed patterns. I could see this pattern making great placemats as well. Maybe making a tablecloth using one of the colors chosen and make the sunflower squares as the border and coordinating placemats. Or even going whole hog and making a few in cotton to use as hot pads as well for the full kitchen set up. We just bought our retirement home, our dream house in the Highlands of Scotland and hubby has given me the green light to decorate as I wish and I have been making all kinds of crocheted, knitted and quilted things, and have been having so much fun and have been working on things for the kitchen atm. We won’t move in until this time next year so I have plenty of time. I have bought a few linen napkins though for our first meals with family, friends and new neighbours, where I will have everyone at the dinner sign and date it, leaving a message if they would like on one napkin per event. I will then have it framed and hang it up as kitchen decor to remember the new happy adventures in the new home. I had considered using crochet thread size 10 for making the special napkins but then nearly cried at the thought of someone using permanent ink on something crocheted lol. So hubby came up with the compromise lol. Best of luck with your tablecloth, I am sure it will be stunning! Happy Holidays!

Beautiful!!! Can you tell us what type of yarn (fiber, weight, etc)?
@CrochetCavalier21 сағат бұрын
@lilidundi sorry I should have done that. I think I did say in the tutorial but maybe I wasnt clear enough. I really wasn’t expecting so many people to like it. I’m overwhelmed. I used an 8ply (DK) weight 100% merino wool for the two cushions I made. But, you could use an acrylic or cotton of the same weight. I dyed this yarn myself. The yellow cushion was made from 100% Merino wool I got from Nundle Woollen Mills in Australia. The peachy one was Four Seasons 100% pure wool from Spotlight Stores Australia. I purchased an off white yarn and then dyed them myself. I hope that helps. Thankyou for bringing that to my attention. I’ll add a note in the description section for others. Hook size is 4mm and the cushion insert for a 16 squares cushion is 22cm x 22cm.

Thanks for the video, your video is easy to understand, my mom use to crochet but she was just able to past the simple basics of crocheting before she pasted. She had a flower pattern but I don't know how to do it, this video maybe will be a start to learn something, thanks. I made a simple small crocket blanket with all different colors crochet grandy quares for my son's Christmas one year, I figured out how to do it and put it together lol 😂. Your crocheting looks really neat and your instructions are east to follow, keep doing videos, I'll keep looking for them in the future, great work. Now if I can get the energy to do some crocheting, my mom left me enough yarn for me and daughter for rest of our life, I think she bought yard every time she went to town, I don't blame her she didn't have anything growing up. She loved rose and green and off white so maybe I can make some pretty with that. I'm going to check out your other videos later so I can see some of crocheting!😊

Tammy Thankyou for your gorgeous comment. I also learnt to crochet from my aunty many years ago as a child. Just the basic granny squares. 15 years ago I picked it I again and became more adventurous. It’s been a journey of learning. Im hoping to inspire and teach in a way that is simple enough for anyone to learn. The way I taught my own children. Im sure you can do this one. The most important thing is to learn the basic stitches, single crochet, half double, double and treble (or if you’re in the UK they are double, half table, treble and double treble). Once you learn those 4 stitches you can become adventurous and try different patterns. Thank you for sharing your story too. Let me know how you go. @CrochetCavalier2 күн бұрын
Yes any 8ply or DK weight would work. Or you could do a different colour for each round. The peach one was just an 8ply yarn I bought from our local craft store. It wasnt an expensive yarn. It was on sale for $2.00 a ball. It was a neutral off white colour and I dyed it myself. But, you could use an acrylic or cotton or whatever you have available where you live. I hope you enjoy trying it and I’d love to see what you make. 🦋🦋🦋
