My favorite part of living in NEO is having a resort in my backyard. 30min drive to BMBW, can run out there before work, after work, for an hour or two on a Saturday morning, no pressure to spend 8+ hours on the slopes. It’s nice.

Nothing will beat 2007-2016 HSSA. The joker, big rainbow, the bullet, dragon tail,the wall, ect. During that time you brought in an artist to paint all of the rails and it was some of the coolest art I’ve ever seen. A peak to my childhood and I miss those days dearly…

Thumbs Up Matthew Z. Just checking in, I would like to let you know, "big" ski trip planned to do a "Circle Route." I will be headed up Swiss Valley(have a pass), Caberfae(have a pass), Highlands, Ski Norway, MLK Sun-Mon @ Ski Brule w/friends, Ski Tyrol Basin, Ski Little Switzerland, Ski Lake Geneva, and home to Elkhart, Indiana. 11-14 out traveling, plan to ski 12 days. This will be my farewell nod to Midwest Skiing. It has beat not skiing, but I am headed back out West: Born there, raised there, I have family there. Maybe we finally get a chance to have a Parking Lot PBR Pounder, eh? I will be checking in. Skiing is fun! ps I gave all of your commenters Thumbs Up, and I will hit up your website for some momentos of my Midwest Ski experiences.

Thanks for throwing in the xtra stickers with the hats! My gf and I rock them at Nubs where the South Side is open as of today! Lots of good groomers + the front side in great shape! Post xmas will be warm (uppper 30's) but the base is solid enough there will be no prob.

Wow, this is a great video. I never really realized hyland was this popular because I’ve always thought it was just a good local park. But no, I’m glad the expert park building attracts so many people! (I’m also glad that we got like 9 inches of snow last night 😼)

Favorite video in a while. Super cool! How about a ski flying video. Believe it’s more or less exclusive to the Midwest anymore.

Looks good so far but next couple weeks look terrible. It looks like temps will rise and rain which doesn't seem the best, but i hope wind changes from the North and some snow coming on. Just bought my bent 90s and new boots so i hope i get some time to rip this season.

great video! Nubs is always fun, but Nubs with 2ft of fresh powder is insane. Next trip, try to check out Schuss, Bittersweet, and The Homestead. Also, maybe hit Mt. Holly, which is the best metro Detroit hill

In northern lower peninsula Michigan we've lost a lot of our natural base in the past 24 hours. Down from 6-8" to 1-3". The Keweenaw has a lot of snow though and the recent rain didn't impact base depth but it did condense it which should be good for laying down fresh powder with another lake effect cycle starting tonight which should last through fri/sat.

Hearing you talk about places like Perfect North that can blow snow on 100% of their terrain and how aggressive you say different resorts may or may not be, I would be interested to here about/compare the snow make capability of resorts and what it takes each to get 100% open. Being in the twin cities myself, I have been following 4 resorts in our area (Troll, Wild, Buck and Afton). I think its fair to say they all have experienced similar weather conditions this year. But It feels like they are opening terrain at different rates. We are closing in on nearly a month of great snow making weather, but it feels like Afton (a bigger resort) might need almost another month to get 100% open if they don't have help from natural snow, were as Buck (smaller resort) is nearly 100%. It makes me wonder if the higher price for a pass can be justified for more terrain if you don't get to use that terrain for half the season. From a very simplistic viewpoint, bigger should means more money for snow making infrastructure to open (% wise) in the same amount of time, in order to justify higher ticket prices with more terrain.
@MidwestSkiersКүн бұрын
Well… oh boy this is a loaded question. Yes they are close, but the difference of a handful of degrees, water temperature, and ground temp are so important that it makes any comparison between them basically meaningless. The other thing you haven’t talked about is acreage. Afton has A TON of acreage. Most flat, but A TON. Think of the zone between the meadows and the highlands for example. Ya you pole through it all but it has to be covered. Percentage open is not a fair comparison. However; yes you should pay attention to how much money is being reinvested in snowmaking. It will obviously impact how quickly you get on snow.

I agree with all 4 of your points in this video; but I would like to add a #5 or and add on to #2. Ski areas should make sure that their lifties are hyping up the riders when they get on the lift, this just makes your day on the hill so much better. Caberfae peaks in Michigan demonstrates this amazingly even going so far as making a video for their best liftie. (Shoutout to Chris Johnson)
