Very nice. Despite Mpc 3 being on the way I have a quick question...is there a down side to route the entire drum program to a submix? For hip hop and that type of stuff. Thank you and best regards from Portugal
@dncmusic80709 күн бұрын
Good question. No. I wouldn’t say that there is a downside. If anything you can apply a dynamics utility to your percussive arrangement. I usually use buss compression on drum submixes but at this point you can use what ever you like. Routing your drums to submixes affords you the ability to control elements that you may have otherwise overlooked. Take a look at the buss compressor section of this video when you have the chance: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hmfJZIx9mLGsoZYsi=Z9ZG2yVh4sYiCtwI Thank you so much for question and for supporting the channel 😀.

A little tip for the vintage compressor or really any drum compression is to use a slower attack and medium to fast release so you can keeo the transients and also avoid losing the punchiness from the compressor. Keep it at 50% dry/wet and use a 4:1 ratio like you did and youll get a punchy fat sound with the transients so you dont lose any short hits like hihats, kick transients and all that jazz. Otherwise this was a great tutorial and helped me level up my understanding of the MPC compressors. I was trying to find anything that could tell me which one was most like the 1176 and this didnt directly answer my question but it was great and useful info nonetheless. Appreciate it man! You got a sub out of me for sure.
@dncmusic80709 күн бұрын
Thank you so much. You are absolutely right about the vintage compressor. Using the method that you recommended will definitely add character and punch to percussive arrangements. An 1176/FET emulation would be a cool addition to the MPC insert lineup. I didn’t see anything that that mimics an FET but I’ll take a look again. I researched the AIR limiter but it appears to be a standard mastering limiter. I’ll experiment with the settings and let you know if anything comes about this. Thank you so much for supporting the channel 😀.

I have a question. Can you just use usb on mpc for audio instead of using audio cables on jx08? I'm trying to play the jx08 audio thru mpc live 2 speakers. I could have sworn one day I hooked up just usb and it play a sound thru the mpc
@dncmusic80709 күн бұрын
Very good question. Yes you can but the line inputs of the MPC become inert. The JX-08 essentially becomes the audio interface. I believe it also replaces the MPC line output source as well. I’m curious as to how MPC 3 will go about handling this because I like the idea of audio over USB but I also like the flexibility of selecting which input/output source I would like to use on a per instance/track basis. Let me know if this helps. Thank you for the excellent question 😀!

I have it and at least my jd08 assigns the last slider/button/knob I touched to each palette. You can also see from your video at the end when you touch any slider that in reality they don't modify the filter, phaser, lfo but they change the waveforms of the lfo. Now I don't know if there is an internal setting or not to set a different parameter on each palette but I don't think so. let's hope Roland updates the firmware because it would be much much more interesting to change different parameters for each layer instead of just one on all four. so.... greetings from Italy and enjoy music.

Weird question: I resampled my music, cut the sample right at the start point, but when I play it back, it's slightly faster than the master tempo, even though I never touched tempo. Is there a reason you can think of? Appreciate your time and content. Earned a sub.
@brianpinkins621817 күн бұрын
Use threshold recording. When you resample, increase the sampler volume slider a little (i.e., threshold level), press the sampler record button and then play what you want to resample. The sampler will start resampling only when it receives input that reaches the threshold level you set. The start point should be perfect, with no edits required, and the resampled audio should be in perfect time when played back.
@dncmusic807013 күн бұрын
I agree with @brianpinkin6218 unless there is something causing an inadvertent warping of the samples playback tempo. There is an option for sample warping in the sample editor section. Is this still giving you issues? Hopefully MPC 3 remedies this. I’m looking forward to the update. In the meantime, I will attempt a few fixes on my end. I’ll keep you posted. You videos are so helpful and pretty much the only ones that reach out to me and I'm so thankful to you for that! You wouldn't by any chance have any tutorials on how to record vocals and create complete songs with vocals would you? I'm so lost when it comes to recording vocals on the Key 37. You're welcome. My apologies for the delayed response. I would be more than happy to help with this. The latest version of the MPC firmware allows you to connect an audio interface via USB. I would definitely go this route. Make sure the audio interface has a phantom power switch (assuming you are using a condenser mic). The MPC should recognize the device. After that, I would connect my mic and record the vocal as an audio track. I've been toying with the idea of making a video on this topic. Stay tuned. I may create a video on how I record external audio. Thank you so much for the question.😀

@@dncmusic8070 No worries on the delay! It's been 3 days since you replied so I'm guilty as well. LOL. I've already got the audio interface and with phantom since my mic requires phantom. For example, I've got a verse in a sequence, but when I record the vocals, the drums would mute out, or the electric piano track would mute out, and then it loops. Man, it's hard to explain when I don't even know how to describe it. LOL! I'm going to go ahead a make a video of what I'm talking about, and upload it on KZbin and I'll tag you on it. One query…when I set up my sends and returns I noticed the audio is louder, do I have to turn down the audio from track in the programme mix? When I do that I loose my EQ and other settings…any suggestions?
@dncmusic80703 ай бұрын
Sorry for the delay my friend. It sounds like you are hearing a combination of the original signal and the auxiliary send/ return signal. If you don’t mind my asking, what type of effect are you applying to the send/return insert? To answer your question, keep the original signal at the desired level. If you are using reverb on the the send/return insert (for instance), make sure the insert is set to full it’s wet setting (no dry signal). This may help reduce the loudness. Let me know if this helps. 😀
@clevadeva3 ай бұрын
@@dncmusic8070 thanks for getting back to me!🙏🏾 so I tried the process again and turned up my wet signal (send one) 100% using reverb to test the theory. I had one sample chopped up on multiple pads which I implemented the send process. I then used the volume in returns window to control the overall amount of send/wet signal reverb. That seems to have worked but it’s a slight variation to your tutorial. Your thoughts?🙏🏾

So is this the same as just putting an effect directly on the pad (as opposed to the whole program)?
@dncmusic80704 ай бұрын
Excellent question. Not exactly. This is a form of parallel processing. You are hearing a combination of the direct output and the effected output. By raising the send/return fader you are applying more of the effected signal into your mix. This allows for more subtle insert effects as opposed to full saturation. It also allows you to run several pads into the same insert. This prevents you from having to apply the same insert to each individual pad (which can deplete your system resources). Let me know if this helps. Thank you for the question😀!
