Great video! I followed everything with my toyota 22re pickup. It wont start or even attempt to, no click no sound nothing. Unfortunately i passed every test you did. That surprised me. So now im really confused on why it wont start! where do i go from here?

There is 4 cv joints (in FWD car). 2 inner (near differential) 2 outer near wheel hub. Inner ones fails rarely, outer fails much faster due to steep steering angles. it starts to produce cracking sound when protective rubber cup is broken as dirt can get into cv joint and grind its internals especially in winter. Its good idea to check protective rubber cups for tears and holes once in few months. If cv joint breaks due to wear you wont be able to drive a car

My car starts every time, but it sounds like it's barely turning over, then it runs. The starter motor doesn't sound like it's cranking with any vigor, but it starts immediately. The battery and alternator output were checked and are OK. What should I check next?
@JustinMillerAutomotive21 күн бұрын
It is hard to say what is wrong without more information. If you have voltage-drop tested the starter circuit, you can rule out any problems with the cables and wiring. You may have a problem with the starter armature, brushes, or drive gear. You may also want to verify that the battery voltage is staying above about 10 volts while cranking. If you have a lab scope, you can capture the voltage and current during cranking and you can see virtually everything that is going on in your starting system in one waveform. Here is a video that may be helpful: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZpXRXqxtlK9qabM. If you want to dive into scope diagnosis, I recommend a PicoScope. you can get one here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZpXRXqxtlK9qabM.

I have a P0420 Code on an 03 Corolla. The O2 Sensors both fluctuate similarly. You said this means that the CAT most likely is degraded. I've seen some talk about using cat cleaner... Is this a scenario where I could consider using cat cleaner or should i save for a Cat replacement?
@JustinMillerAutomotive21 күн бұрын
II am only speaking from my personal experience, but cat cleaners, MAF cleaners, etc. Never seem to do anything. I wouldn't waste the money, but put the money toward a new cat or at least toward a hamburger!😊

To check the fuses under the hood (bonnet), I use a logic probe. It's a lot faster and easier. You don't have to switch the test light clamp from negative to positive clamp and vise-versa. You also don't have to try remembering which fuses didn't light when clamp was on pos or neg.

Good test procedure. I saw your waveforms for the engine timing for a 1998-2012 Ford Ranger on Rotkee. Can I get more details from you? Trying to get my grandson's Ranger working right.
@JustinMillerAutomotive21 күн бұрын
I have a lot of waveforms from a lot of cars! Without more information about the problem you are trying to solve, I don't know how to answer your question. Are you dealing with a cam & valve timing issue or with an ignition timing issue? If you want to communicate more or share your waveforms, send me a message through the contact page on CatchaWave.com.

Yes! I see you posted this yrs back and look you're still giving a great service; That's awesome.... Thank you! I inherited the very meter you used and unfortunately, my dad died BEFORE teaching me how to use this tool. Fortunately, I did learn lots from him over the years. I guess you can call me his boy lol though I am a girl 100%. We teased a lot where I'd tell him "you're just a boy" & He'd come back "you're just a girl". I was always his "small hands" where he was always doing something to one of his classic hot rods he always had. The last one he owned was a '34 Plymouth Coupe. I sure miss him!! (though never cared for the grease when we worked on a daily driven work car! lol) He was the ONLY mechanic I had full trust in. Thankful for the stuff he had taught me saved a lot of hard earned money for sure as it still does to this very day. Thanks again for sharing this easy to understand video ✌️

Good Day Justin : I'm a aircraft level inspector . I really enjoyed the video . I went through College for Tool & Die Design . Your video certainly brings back memories . I spent about 16 yrs in a military gas turbine blade mfg plant and also other aircraft level Shops in Canada . I used hundreds and hundreds of dial bores like Starrett, Mitutoyo , Federal , Sunnen etc . When you are attempting to locate an out of round condition always use a straight rod dial bore , as in your video. Get your purchasing dept to locate a setting device for you that will accommodate the dial bore that is shown in your video . ( looks like a Mitutoyo ) . If you are measuring a completely finished over bored cylinder , use a a digital Sunnen three fingered dial bore for your needs . This type of dial bore contacts at three spots 120 degrees apart and will give you excellent /splendid results on your new finished bores . The beauty of the three fingered models is that they automatically set them selves . Each comes with an accurate "Setting Ring" , no chance for error , ever . Good Luck !

Respectfully just Because you call something a straight edge doesn't mean it is. Alignment should be checked With main caps Cleaned installed and torque to spec With fasteners that are going to be used during the engine overhaul.

I have an ignition solenoid wire that is melted right on the ignition switch terminal. I am replacing the ignition switch tomorrow as it is melted. How would i find where the unwanted resistance is coming from? The rest of the wire seems fine.
@JustinMillerAutomotive21 күн бұрын
If the only melting is at the terminal or connector, then your problem is probably just a poor connection at the terminal. The terminal is likely corroded (from exposure to the elements) or is no longer fitting tightly. You may have to replace the terminal as well as the connector that houses it.

can shim over bucket lifters be replaced with hydraulic bucket lifters on a subaru?
@JustinMillerAutomotive21 күн бұрын
No, not unless someone makes a replacement part specifically for your engine or you know how to re-engineer your engine yourself.
@johnj2496Ай бұрын
can this be done but im sure more of a hassle but with the crank n rods still installed
@JustinMillerAutomotive21 күн бұрын
Yes, on some v-type engines you can remove and install the bearings through the valley (from the top of the engine) and it isn't hard at all. On others, they must come out through the bottom. Also, if you do it in the right order, you can install them through cam shaft bores at the end of the engine, but it might be really hard to tell when they are installed correctly because you can't see them with the crank and rods in the way.

That is OK while the car is stationary and the engine is off. How do you measure the charge status while driving the vehicle?
@JustinMillerAutomotive21 күн бұрын
That is a great question. Because you can't measure battery voltage while the engine is running and the alternator is creating a higher voltage than the battery, the only way that I know of to know battery charge is to measure current flowing into and out of the battery. A current clamp or current sensor around the battery will tell you what the charge rate of the battery is. When the battery is fully charged, the charge rate should be below about 2-3 amps.
