This video inspired me to try paragliding. I'm in the U.S. and as of several years ago, earned my P3 rating and went to Turkiye before that to do my SIV with Theo Deblic's Rise Paragliding. It was a once in a lifetime experience for me as I suffered a debilitating brain injury(unrelated to paragliding) that has prevented me from flying ever since. I miss it so much I wanna cry. I also became a father around the tineof my injury and hope my daughter develops a passion for flight as well. Anyway, i used to watch bideos Luke these at work and told my coworkers I was going to go it some day, but most just laughed at me and scoffed. Anyway, thanks for sharing your incredible flight! You inspired a random dude on the other side of the globe to become a pilot and find his forever happy place (in the skies, peacefully gliding over the mountains).

I'm new to blender so bear with me please. I noticed that you hit "E" to apply the map data, two things happened. First, you have the object's data on the top left next to selection box, so you know what the geometry is. 2nd, you have the BSDF material node at the bottom of the screen. I don't understand how you got either of these to shop up on your screen. Since this is a year ago, chances are you're not in Blender 4.3. I'm used to having these functions show up in Lightwave, whichi is very different from Blender. I'm really having a hard time understanding Blender's UI, its so very different!! Could you explain this please???? thanks

hey! thanks, just watched your video - this tool i think solves exactly that problem! it works beyond the first iteration, as many times as you'd like. if i'm unclear what you're trying to say pls let me know. disclaimer that this only *algorithmically* normalizes the size, but generally it'll get you 99% or more of the way there.

@@jaredralphstanley for me good job is visually same size logos. But sameness depends on font size, colour (contrast), background (colour plate and white text) etc. Also geometric centre and optical centre… So it is hard to do it only base on container size.

@jaredralphstanley6 ай бұрын
It sounds like you’re in object mode and you need to be in edit mode. Hit TAB to toggle between modes. Edit mode edits the specific polygons and geometry of an object, Object mode works at the object level so you can add or remove different objects. Sure, you’ll want to be careful of having too much data - so if you’re doing a whole continent you probably don’t want to load in every little foothill and bump - so depending on the scale you should manage the information accordingly.

Ah man sry that sucks when you follow the steps but get stuck on something. It sounds like it might be the size of the light? Good luck!

@@jaredralphstanley i really appreciate that you did this video but i think that this video is very misleading. Following these steps will not produce the final map you have shown. you should have stated that you adusted the lighting beforehand so that when your viewers follow along they will know why their lighting/shadows look like shit. like i said, i have never opened blender before and was extremely confused and it took me a really long time to understand that you simply did not discuss these things. its kind of frustrating/disengenous. there is a huge absence of tutorials that take you step by step through producing a nice looking DEM based map in blender. its kind of like somehow there is this concerted effort to not explain the entire thing to keep the knowledge hidden or something? its very frustrating. anyways i appreciate this video but it is lacking for sure
@jaredralphstanley Жыл бұрын
Sry. it’s definitely not for ppl brand new to blender. if you’ve never opened blender you should be focused on basics. Did you expect to open the program and be able to recreate this after following a 20-min tutorial? If you haven’t learned about lights I’d suggest you focus on that, if you haven’t learned about rendering I’d suggest focusing on that. Anyone with basic blender skills should be able to recreate this but I’m not able to go through from installing to navigating etc. a basic level of knowledge is assumed. Good luck!

Here’s a couple ideas you guys could try: - make sure the number of polygons is huge. Select your polygons in edit mode, subdivide like 5 times and then come out of edit mode back to object mode - make sure your image resolution is large enough and has enough info to render out the details. - make sure you’re not in evee, I think this may only work in cycles. Try those and lmk the outcome! Good luck!
