As some people might know, as a tribute, Sting wrote lyrics to accompany a Kenny Kirkland song called, Dienda. Here is a live performance. The pianist is Jason Rebello who Kenny recommended to Sting. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eHexfquDZtehjtU

Kenny Kirkland inspired countless jazz pianists through his collaboration with Sting, and in particular the solo in Bring on the Night. There have always been piano solos in rock and pop, but NOTHING that sounded like that. To those who’d never been exposed to jazz, his approach was completely alien but incredible. He made piano actually cool, rather than corny or cliche and it opened the eyes of countless aspiring musicians who never knew the piano could do the things that Kenny made it do. He was a true genius on the instrument and his effect on those who followed can’t be overstated.

Kenny was a serious drug addict for most of his life. He loved drugs more than he loved life

I saw Sting and Kenny play on Sting's second solo album and Kenny's solos were on an other level. I've never been able to describe it but a lot of stuff almost sounded like a "mistake" and then suddenly wasn't. LOL So when Sting said that I was like HA! yeah.

I don't really know Kenny's work with Sting, but it's something i will look into further. Sting seems to be an incredibly sage guy, at least from this brief video I'm surprised to see no mention of Kenny w/ the under-rated Stone Alliance. He, Don Alias and Gene Perla were easily as close as any group KK performed with

I met Kenny a few times. He was incredibly humble. I think his work with Sting was great but I feel that Kenny's voice was best when playing Jazz.

Had several occasions to see/hear Mr. Watts perform live in NYC; Dude is The Truth; lightening fast and deadly effective with a kit and sticks.
