DOCTONE: Billy Hart on Kenny Kirkland

Jazz giant and drummer Billy Hart discusses Kenny Kirkland in relation to Herbie Hancock, classical music, and the avant-garde. Billy aka "Jabali" also discusses Kenny's social and personal interactions on the music scene as a young man. This is part of a larger documentary celebrating Kenny's life and music on his 65th birthday 9/28/2020. Kenny played in my band after leaving Manhattan School of Music. We kind of lived together as a group when we were doing college and club tours. He along with Cecil Mcbee Jr, and Kenny Aronoff were an incredible rhythm section. My father always told me “A smart leader hires guys who he can learn from”, I learned so much from Kenny.
