Hi! Thank you for making this video! I am a graphic design student and am planning on using this technique for my next project. I followed along with your video, using simple shapes, instead of illustrating something as a trial. When I went to fill in the shapes with the risograph brush, it shows up white, instead of the color the layer is set to. I was wondering if you know what was causing this and could help? Your help would be greatly appreciated!!

Over time I have learned to fight the urge to get defensive when receiving constructive criticism. More often than not I end up finding a solution that pleases both my client and my inner artist. If I make an honest effort to consider my clients feedback and still can't find a solution, that's when I'll push back. As a sensitive creative-type this has saved me a lot of stress over the years.

Thanks for the info - so easy! IG seems to be labelling everything that is remotely artistically editted as "AI" now. Especially annoying if you create "fineart" images.
@DeepfriedBaby19 күн бұрын

Yeah some people can’t get rid of it. Not sure why, but I suspect it’s because they might be actually posting Ai generated or assisted images … not that you are, but are you?

I think I missed a step, because my original artwork has several colors and by following the steps, it's only black and white in illustrator. Any ideas where I went wrong?
@TomFroese18 күн бұрын
Yes, this is for single colour artwork, or art that has colours already separated. This isn’t for a flat image (say, something made with AI or a photo)…in this case I would recommend LiveTrace over this method.

I was having the same problem, but I figured out a way around it. All you need to do is click the three dots and then edit the post, then delete all but two of your pictures if you have multiple and then go to your activity section of settings, then go to deleted and restore them. And then go back and do the same for the two photos that you did not remove not sure why this works, but it worked for me.
@JonathanFinch-s2d22 күн бұрын
Thanks for this video. Unfortunately it's not working for me. When I click the dots and go to edit it only gives the option to add a location or music. I've even tried redoing the post with the AI label turned ON so that I can then turn it off after. When I do this, the AI info turns from white to blue like it's been turned off but when I go back to the post, the label is still there?!
@TomFroese18 күн бұрын
That’s so frustrating. Troubleshooting this with a fellow commenter and not getting anywhere myself.
@JonathanFinch-s2d17 күн бұрын
@@TomFroese The only temporary work-around I found was to screenshot the image and then crop and post that instead. If you go Export As in Photoshop there is a section at the bottom right of the window which will show you if the image is likely to get flagged as Ai (check Metadata is ticked None and Content Credentials are Not Enabled)

Im having the same issues currently, I think its something within the app that wont let you remove it. It’s really frustrating because I barely extended a crop on an image to make it more even, literally a few pixels and it will not let me unflag it.

However it will not let me remove the location either?? Maybe the app is having some issues

Hello, Tom, I have listened to a few episodes of your podcast and it is quickly getting to the top of my list of favourites! I have a question that is kind of bothering me for some time and it might be a bit off topic here. Do you think an illustrator can work traditionally and still get enough work these days? Supposed he/she can digitize and edit the work well and maybe even incorporate the analogue work into infographics and other digital materials? Because that's what I would love to do. I do not enjoy working digitally, I enjoy editing and playing around with my illustrations after I scan them though. I can see a lot of traditional illustrators around but those are people who started some time ago and are already established and very well known. Thank you very much for your opinion.
@TomFroese18 күн бұрын
Thank you! Honestly, you could make your art using finger paint or by scratching a bathroom stall with a house key. It doesn’t matter how you make your work as much as whether your ideas and style work for the purpose or goal of the piece. What matters most is that your technique looks well crafted and intentional. Using digital or analogue may result in a well crafted piece or something more amateur looking. Does that make sense?
@annaz.907618 күн бұрын
@@TomFroese Yes, thank you! That's basically what I was thinking but sometimes I get really intimidated by many successful illustrators who work exclusively digitally and by people or companies looking for illustrators requiring digital work only. But I guess there is a market for everything if the work itself is well done.

I haven’t used this brand yet, but I have been using metal tips and matte screen protectors for while now and have found that adjusting the pen pressure curve settings helped me a lot to prevent scratches. I have it set so that I only need to apply a small amount of pressure to get my strokes down and it has help my wrists out a lot too. My only problem now is all the off brand tips I have tried so far haven’t been the best quality in terms of dropping my Apple Pencil. Due to my clumsy hands, I have lost two Apple pencils due to off-brand tips breaking inside my pencil upon contact with the floor. Never happened with the original tips. 😢
