I remember attempting to watch this, as a huge Eminem fan in high school (early Millenial here) when and where it was still cool to hate on people listening to Eminem cd’s, I had to try watching it on my computer and I just thought that the whole thing looked so fucking ugly as sin, and I genuinely thought my computer was to blame for the horrific frame rate and jumpy schizophrenic presentation. As an early adopter of Newgrounds before even the original Portal was released and it was just the assassin page, I was used to shoddy and low frame count flash animation. But this was SOMETHING else that even I just couldn’t tolerate looking at.

My ranking from best to worst: 1st (Curse of the Black Pearl) Classic swasbuckling pirate action 2nd (On Stranger Tides) Suprisingly good adventure movie with descent humor, cool visuals and a badass villain. 3rd (Dead Mans Chest) Pretty much a adrenaline rush 4th (At Worlds End) A bit too complex and bloated, but still enjoyable 5th (Dead Men Tell No Tales) Only one I dont enjoy. Despite some neat visuals, the problems in the movie are just too big to overlook.

I actually enjoyed this as a kid and still do.

The sad thing is that the aet style is unironically the best thing about the stuff.

I’d actually argue that the 2nd film has the most iconic ending lol. Probably one of the most hype and best endings ever. Ya I love pirates 1-3.

I've watched the entirety of the Slim Shady Show 4 times already. I personally think it's funny because of how terrible it is, there is no other way to put it. That and I find anything vulgar funny.

I’m raiders Indy knew not to look at the ark also because it says in lore that God strikes people down when they gazed at the ark. So I think Indy took a chance not looking

The CGI crew in Death Man’a Chest were not given enough time, they were pushed to extremes. They probably should not have done such a good job because that set unrealistic standards

One thing id give the 5th film credit for is the action scenes. The opening with the building chase is so stupid its almost too dumb to take seriously but honestly i love it and same with the gilliutine scene too.

The only thing i really remember about the 4th film is the Spanish showing up to the fountain and saying "My man God dosent approve of this" and destroying a miracle location and just fucking leaves. 😂

I read the book and saw both movies. I think both movies tried to do the book justice, but the book had a slow pace, and it was pretty long. I can't see how a movie could be made from this book without changing the narrative from book to movie.

You hit the nail on the head. The raft out of the plane was the beginning of the end of the serious adventure film. Temple of Doom redirected the focus and placed it more on Jones as a comic book hero. Last Crusade is a mixed bag, it is as if its using the story for the comedy, where as Raiders did the opposite. In Last Crusade it was also the music. It is more of a family friendly amusement ride. The film also gives it away. There is one moment in the sewer, where they pass an inscription on the wall, which is the Ark of the Covenant, and for a moment the music returns to that haunting mysterious tune which was absent in the rest of Last Crusade. They could have unpacked the Holy Grail story much more, and by the end, it is not just the grail that is found, what about the knight. It could have followed with a simple montage where Henry Jones is documenting history while Indy talks to him.
