As well as reshaping the seat I wanted to not add any height to the seat (in fact lower it a bit) I guess you could experiment with removing more foam and adding a gel insert but if you weren’t happy with the results then it’s harder to come back from.

A great difference is the 1250FA has an incredible torque curve that starts at 3.8k revs and remains constant. It’s a truly great engine and bordering on a classic. The new model is a-fine machine, but more revving machine max Torque at 6.8 k revs….yes the FA is a bit Lardy so watch it when stationary on road surfaces , but I am still in love with it after 8 years… and just returned from trip round Spain… it’s truly timeless

Hello! Very glad I happened to see this channel. First off, congrats on the new GT. I bought my 1250FA brand new in 2011 and have absolutely enjoyed this bike ever since. Over the nearly 14 years and 70,000+ miles of service, this machine has been flawless. Of course, I have made a lot of changes over the years. I have (and when I say "I have" I really mean I have had it done!) had the brakes completely redone with new rotors, pads, master, levers and braided steel lines, I had the front forks rebuilt with better springs etc., I had a custom-built shock installed and set up for my specifications, a Yoshi R-77 can with a fueler, and a gearing change. Other than the exhaust, the engine has been left alone as I never felt the need to do anything more to it. This bike has been and still is a good friend and a proper road missile, but she is getting a bit long in the tooth. So it was great to discover this video and get your take as an actual rider who has made the switch. Cheers!

can i hook up the original instrument cluster to a swapped engine? i have a gxr swap and the old owner turned it into a cafe racer and ive been trying to restore it to its original glory, but all the wires have been butchered. does anyone know exactly where i need to connect all the wires to reed the gas, speed, gear et. your video has been super helpful thank you. very clear and understandable👍
@plaxsax
@plaxsax 4 ай бұрын
Hmm, you’d need the wiring diagrams from both bikes then compare colours. A bit of googling should get you the diagrams. The speedo is manual so that’s easy. The lights are pretty straightforward just need to match the colours. Tachometer could be interesting though as it’s electronic. A matter of trying it and see if it works and also if it seems accurate.

@@plaxsax thank you so much. I got the tail light hooked up super simple. There are these two twist locks on the instrument cluster, do you know what I'm supposed to connect them to. probably a stupid question but I've never owned a bike so I'm really confused.

@@averagewhacker5991 Should be only one of those metal wire hooks from memory. Under the triple clamp part of the frame there are two openings. The wiring harness goes through the left one as you sit on the bike. If you look just above the opening you should see a 6mm bolt hole. The metal clip bolts on there and holds the wiring harness in place.

I will say that I concur as far as ergos go. I noticed it when I sat on a GT, it was the first thing that popped up for me. Pretty happy with where it is. I have accidentally switched them on a couple of times but not recently. Pointing further up would get it out of the way but you’d have to move your hand to reach the switch but I have to do that for my old Oxfords on my Katana. Even though it is tight it can still be twisted so it can be adjusted after.

I have the little brother gsx650f and a gsxs100gt+. Gsx650f feels a bit heavier as centre of gravity is higher and the steel frame but a much more comfy bike for just jumping on and going any kind of run. Its just a well comfy bike. Im dialing in the suspension to my taste on the gt at present and Ive ordered voigt bar risers to hopefully mimic the front ergonomics of the gsxf and give my arms a bit of respite after an hours drive.( left elbow injury) . Hope i can love the gt as much as the old gsxf that i am only selling to a friend who is going through his bike test , because its just two types of similar style bike that i am going to keep investing in the gt for heated grips and a few other things maybey a scottoiler. Oh an abba bike stand is next on the list for home maintenance/ cleaning as the paddock stand is a fiddle as side stand lean in severe

I can't believe it took Suzuki this long to make the "right" version of this bike. They could've just used the GSXR1000 engine in the 1250 model and got more HP and better fuel mileage. Unfortunately they dropped the ball with the FA and now they are dirt cheap used.

One potential problem is that the purple panda requires a power source of 1.8V to 5V. You'll have a voltage drop accross the 820 ohm resistor reducing the supply voltage to the mic. This will reduce the head space for the mic signal, which means the clipping threshold is lower. You might need a capacitor to isolate your voltage dividers from the supply voltage. Also, I don't think the Purple Panda is actually a stereo mic, or at least it doesn't seem to be. Is the signal from the one wire identical to the other? Are the two wires actually isolated? I wonder if you can just get by with the one voltage divider.
@rowdyriemer
@rowdyriemer 7 ай бұрын
I realized I wasn't understanding correctly when I saw your shortened cable, and didn't realize you weren't shortening the cable coming directly from the mic. I bet it's only got two conductors. If I saw correctly, the connector on the cable coming directly from the mic has a trrs connector for smart phone compatibility. If you look at the diagram for trrs cables when wired for smart phone compatibility, there's only one contact for a mic signal along with ground and two speaker contacts.
@plaxsax
@plaxsax 7 ай бұрын
While this did work, I have actually moved on from this setup. I have now spliced into the mic for my Cardo so I only have one mic for both. Seems to work well with no clipping. Also it is a neater solution.

The centre stand was an non-negotiable for me, purely for chain maintenance. Wasn't so much an issue when I had my Triumph Bonneville, cos that we so easy to push around. 100% appreciate this info, I tried it but sadly didn't work for me. The popping and clipping was improved but not gone. I don't know if this will help you and or others searching for a fix, but another channel here on youtube tried a Movo ACM400 mic in an open face helmet (with a full face visor) and is clearly audible at 70mph. I imagine he has one of the noisiest helmets out there. He has two foam covers on the mic and a dead cat over the top. Audio isn't studio quality, but not bad even up to 70mph. Ordered one myself and fixed months of messing around with various mics and covers. I don't want to advertise other channels here obviously, but a search for "New Helmet Microphone Movo ACM400" will likely find the vid. Thanks again for your version though, glad it worked for you, and hope it works for many others - but if not, maybe the Movo will work instead. Good luck and thanks again.

There’s a lot of work that has gone into this and I hope you end up with what you want at the end of the process but I I worry that Verex won’t be able to replicate the smooth (almost continuous) curve line of the original headers. I recently purchased a 1978 GS550E and the big attraction was that it still has the original exhaust system fitted, as I think they make the look of the bike. Any restoration I undertake has to have the original exhaust system, as that is the only way to keep the look faithful imo. Good luck with the rest of the build, it looks like you will have a lovely bike at the end of the project.
