How do you deal with all the SOOT from the laser? I bought the pattern and cut it on a laser, but no matter what leather I use, it gives off black soot and looks so dirty? Any tips how to avoid the laser soot - I tried water, air assist, but no help
@ThisIsHowIMadeItАй бұрын
Watch the leather hat patch video…. I finish my leather first (put a top coat on it), then the soot just wipes off

Thanks for sharing. Parametric design is perfect. I should stop making paper drafting and go try digital. Water sprayer is a great idea. Stitching and edge finishing tutorial is so clean and understandable. As an hobbyist, i learned and use these techniques a few years ago still find the video enjoyable for me. Every second of it is enjoyable and full of valuable information. I should say this is the one ultimate leather works tutorial to cover nearly every aspect of this craft. Never stop being yourself. I have 2 major issues with using a laser to cut out patters, maybe you can help me with them. My first issue is using lighter color thread to stick up the project. Because of the char in the stitch holes, the thread comes out stained as it cleans out the holes. This makes it so I can't use anything but dark brown or black thread, which is a real bummer. The other issue I have is, the first thing people do with leather goods is immediately smell them to get a whiff of that great leather smell, however when using a laser all they get is that horrible burnt flesh smell that we all know so well from using a laser on leather. Have you noticed either of these issues, and how have you overcome them?

Well you have to buy cheap leather people don't want to pay
@JoeyMassie4 ай бұрын
Your work is awesome as usual. I am currently working with my WeCreat 20w laser doing lots of leather projects. I vent my laser outside so the smell while engraving/cutting is negligible. But the finished cut of leather smells bad, especially if it is a koozie, for say a pint glass, which ends up near your nose when you use it. I am experimenting with an Ozone generator and having pretty good luck getting rid of the smell. Do you have any other suggestions I ought to consider?

Question... i only work with leather and have been wanting to up my game when it comes to techniques; this laser would be a great addition. I have never worked with a laser, so my question is, can this laser be used to skive off the underside of leather (hopefully its not a stupid question, like i said i have no knowledge of lasers)? An electric skiver machine runs anywhere from $1600+; i can't afford both, so if the laser can skive, that would definitely be a plus. Thanks.

I will buy some of your patterns here in a minute. My big concern with using my new X-tool S1 is venting out the smoke. I bought a turbo like fan, some ducting, and hosing. I have it sucked out the window. I still get some of the sickening fumes inside the room, but not terribly. What's the best way to vent, and do you use a filtration (carbon) type system to exhaust out those fumes? I know according to the X-tool your not supposed to cut faux leather due to the toxic fumes.

when turning at corners, do not use a diamond punch, but use an ordinary awl by stretching a simple hole. Also do not use a die-cut punch, make a hole in the corner only with an awl. in this case, after the sewing, the rotation will look more neat.
