Sounds like the device is having trouble finding the folder, which could be due to how you installed. I'd recommend adding the device folder to your Places, and loading from there. If that doesn't work reach out to me via email, and we can figure it out.

What camera & software do you use to edit & make these videos?
@peterbarkmusic
@peterbarkmusic Ай бұрын
For episodes 1-19 my main camera was a Logitech webcam. For episode 20 I used a Fujifilm XT-5. The grid and Norns shots are done with my phone using EpocCam pro to stream the video to my PC. For episodes 7-19 I streamed Norns' screen with ndi-mod, but unfortunately it seems to have stopped working as of recording episode 20. There were some changes made in a recent update to how Norns' graphics are displayed, and I think it might have broken the mod. I use OBS to capture my Ableton window, computer sound, mic, and video sources.

@peterbarkmusic
@peterbarkmusic Ай бұрын
You need to make sure that tempo mapping is active for any tracks that you want synced. There have been some pretty big updates to this script since my video released last year, so I suggest checking out the updated documentation. You can find a link to the lines page in the video description.

Nice update. The only thing I am sorely missing is the synchronization of the record button. I would like to synchronize everything I record with the project grid

If you enable Link on the play button recording will be synced to playback. The buffers only record when playback is active.

@@checktheneck The record buffers are only armed when not playing, they won't be recording.
@checktheneck
@checktheneck 2 ай бұрын
@@peterbarkmusic it's very strange, it starts recording to the buffer already during the arm (by "arm" I mean when the play and record buttons are activated, but also the pause button, this is how arm works on a real portastudio, I would like to have the buffer start recording when play is activated in a live session). it's a great device for asynchronous loops, but it doesn't work for me at all, when I try to record something using the classic layering method track by track, it's always feels and acts totally unintuitive, maybe it's just not my thing.
@peterbarkmusic
@peterbarkmusic Ай бұрын
@@checktheneck apologies for the slow reply, I've been looking into this over the last few days. kind of a funny story.. I've thought that the record function worked the way I've been explaining it, but after closer inspection I found that you're right. it is recording even when the 4trak isn't playing. we ended up adding a sync button to record as well now, so the device will only record when playback is active. the updated download link should be going out within the next couple of days!

Quick question, if I record incoming audio, and set the tape length to say 2 bars, it will keep recording over and over, and not respect the two bar length. Is this correct?
@peterbarkmusic
@peterbarkmusic 2 ай бұрын
I'm not sure I understand the question. Is the issue with the recording exceeding the 2 bar length, or is the problem that the audio is recording over what you already recorded?
@claudecoup423
@claudecoup423 2 ай бұрын
@@peterbarkmusic yes if I’ve set the length of a channel to two bars at the top, the device will continue to record audio over and over, past a two bar section. So if I play a clip or sample that is two bars, the tape will continue to record until I hit stop - which is never right on time. Maybe I’m doing something wrong, but is this process as intended?
@peterbarkmusic
@peterbarkmusic 2 ай бұрын
@@claudecoup423 It will keep recording, but if you have overdub turned off it won't replace what is in the buffer. For instances where you want to be more precise, you're probably better off dropping the audio clip into the buffer as opposed to trying to live record it.

I appreciate the visibility of these scripts and a demo. As a prior technical trainer , I have a slight critique. I would maybe spend a little less time just reading the manual to us and more time with easy to understand practical examples. Even though it is nice to know what all the sub menus do, it would have been more helpful to see you set up a loop from scratch, play with it and then go on to the next loop and so on. Also to understand exactly what is handled on the Digitakt as opposed to Norns. Your end track is very nice, but how did Norns actually get the track to sound like that.

Hey man I’m back again, I love rewatching your vids. I have a question about your bass processing. I see it’s in stereo, from my current understanding this can cause issues with mono systems and phase issues? Can I ask why you decided to leave it stereo? It actually sounds really good on my phone speakers!
@peterbarkmusic
@peterbarkmusic 2 ай бұрын
I don't really have a great reason for recording it in stereo lol, I ended up making it mono with Ableton's utility device, which is my go to on most bass tracks. Glad it sounds good out of the phone speakers!

All the loops were made with OP-1, and toy percussion (the ones at the top of the screen). I'm using TouchOSC to control the pitch, and volume of the loops. I also have faders to control the pan of the loops, but I accidentally recorded the performance in mono, so you can't tell.

I have Pamela's New Workout, Maths, Morphagene, Magneto, Clouds, and a mixer. That's a hard call between another norns, and getting into Eurorack. I'd probably go the second norns route myself. Eurorack is great, but as absurd as it sounds 3k isn't going to go too far, especially with having to buy the case.

are you using it send midi to the other machines here? or is it norns which makes the sounds in the performance?

Nope, none of the other instruments are receiving midi from fall. They’re all being controlled independently, but their outputs are routed into Norns to run through falls delay effect.

The way I do it is I have Norns connected to an old audio interface which is then connected to my actual interface via midi cable. There is probably an easier way to do this, but at the time I set it up this is what I had lying around.
