That is an interesting remodel but the stag handle with the spacers feels more like a German (or American) knife and feels (to me) out of place on a traditional Japanese knife, sort of inauthentic. Nice work nevertheless; this is just my opinion.

It very well might be upside down. I may work ok for you. I use a wider and longer , slimmer wood wedge that will fill that hole. Leave it a little more "hung proud" and there will be no need for the steel wedges. You did a very good job otherwise. Keep some oil on it. Gun blue looks good also.

All you're doing is testing blades. As long as the saw performs well as in it will not bind or slow down from the size or pressure of the material you are cutting, that is what we need to see. I found this for $79.61 on AliExpress.

While many of your techniques are questionable at best, it would be advisable to place a safety block behind the crosscut sled where the blade comes out. People will surely copy what you did.

Electrolysis is less desirable than reducing agent. Electrolysis has a preference across the electromotive scale for components of the alloys. In effect, you are changing the alloy at the surface slightly. If you later remove the surface, you didn't need electrolysis in the first place, and if you don't , then you are stuck with the alloy change. Also, it can weaken the interlayer bond of the "Damascus" pressure weld, offering paths for infiltration of atmospheric hydrogen, which can embrittle the steel. A reducing agent ONLY affects the oxygen bound to the iron in the steel, removing it and leaving the elemental iron behind. There are commercial, inexpensive, reducing agents available - one of them is Tarn-X, a tarnish remover used on silver and copper pans and flatware, etc. to remove silver and copper oxide. By immersing - or even just laying the blade in a shallow plate and pouring the solution over the blade, the oxygen will be removed from the rust, leaving behind the elemental iron, loose pieces of which can be buffed away. It will also protect the blade from future continued galvanic corrosion. Thank you for the video; I feel happy that you restored a valuable piece of the blademaker's art to service.
