I was looking at some of your old blogs just a short time ago, and it seemed such a shame that you had stopped. Well you certainly had more reason than most. I do hope and pray that your way forward will be a positive, and healthy one. You all sound so strong, and for a lot of people talking about things is a good thing. Thank you for those money saving Christmas tips, they all help. The only thing I do every year is spread out the cost of the food and presents over a couple of months before the day, it's less of a financial shock than leaving it until the last minute. It's good to see you back on line...xx

HI just found your channel. Sorry to hear that you have had a rough year. Does your husband thinkthere was anything on hindsight that were warning signs. Good luck with a continued recovery. Im a nurse but now near retirement. I must say a stroke is one thing I do worry about now im getting older. But as you say it can happen at anytime. Your Christmas sounds sensible its a pity more people arent like this. We always budgeted for Christmas and still do as we have Grandchildren to buy for now and you could go completely over the top especially as we have more resources now. However this wouldnt be wise and would just seem to go against the whole meaning of Christmas. Love homemade gifts so much more thought goes into these gifts. I have a friend who always makes gifts and its a lovely surprise each year.

Re Christmas decorations. I'm in my late 30s and my family have used the same Christmas tree decorations since I was a child pretty much till they break. We tend to buy one new ornement a year to replace it. :)

If you want to get really serious about being frugal, don't use the washing machine. Get a plasterers bucket and make a washboard instead. Scrub the clothes then stir them in the bucket before wringing. Also make mangle from rolling pins

I use paraffin lamps in the Winter. The provide light and heat the room Turn the TV off, read books, learn an instrument etc instead. Four great hobbies that are free : Reading, Jogging, prayer/meditation, taking cold showers.😊 I would live the same if I won the lottery.

Has anyone had any closing accounts issue or been accused of fraudulent activity with Shopmium? Watch out! It's only a matter of time before it happens to more honest customers. Be careful!

New subscriber! These all look very good. I always think of bacon with white sauce so I will have to try this :) From the US, I love to see the prices of your foods. I realize I'm late to this party, but your foods are so cheap! I'm jealous. Looking forward to seeing more frugal meals! TY

I hope everyone tries to use cash as much as possible. If the government have their way, we will be cashless and will lose control of when and where we can spend/go

Remember that a gas oven is also heating your home. My grandma always baked on a weekend because the family were all home and it helped heat the home. Microwave....throw it out

Are you really okay with wasting the best years of your life away literally at the bottom of society ? Start a career, save up, take your children and ditch your useless husband and live with relatives / trusted friends until you meet a man of better quality that you like and marry him instead. I feel so bad watching you brag about spending £30 on food a week.
@maalikserebryakov Жыл бұрын
Goodness, your husband sounds useless. You made a mistake marrying such an incompetent man. Your pragmatism and mental strength are good though, A person like that shouldn’t really be having financial problems in the first place. What did you husband work as before the troubles started?

When cooking dry pasta there is no need to boil it from the start. Simply soak it in just enough cold water to cover it until it is about half as soft as you want it ( Al dente) then bring it to the boil for a few minutes to finish it off. It might be even more efficent to boil it in a suitable dish in the microwave rather than on the hob.

I saves very very hard the past couple of years for us to go on an extravagant holiday with my parents as they are In poor health and wanted to make for ever memories with them it was amazing when we were there though i did do alot of the cooking and before we went did meal plans and checked prices. We saved a fortune doing it that way and we would sit and roughly work out how much money we had saved from cooking that meal to if we went out to a restaurant. We did go out a couple of times to a restaurant but I did enjoy cooking and eating in the condo more. Xx

That kitty is so cute, I was ridiculously distracted. 😆 But yes, cooking is energy intensive, so these are good tips. You can swap out the slow cooker and pressure cooker for a haybox/thermal cooker. I don't know what cooking "on the hob" means though. Is that a burner/stove top? Edit...I just wait until the end to comment. 😆

Blue peter badges the children right and send a pic of their favourite things to do and you will be sent a blue peter badge and card you will need to put a passport pic of your child in it and your child can get into lot of places free. Also join the motorhome and caravan club even if you dont have either and you can get loads of discounts with that aswell. X

Not to waste a big bag of potatoes I boil mash and freeze some with others I bake either loaded or not and finally some chips great to have to hand on those busy days.

I make carbonara with the bacon, just needs some egg and parmesan for the sauce. Favourite though is a layered vegetable bake (potato, leek, swede, sweet potato, tomato and a good heavy sprinkle of oregano) that includes a layer of chopped cooking bacon.

Been doing these things all my life...had to, to keep going. Now, in the current climate, I really am stuck on finding ways to pay for necessities. The one thing I have done this year is to prepare my garden for vegetables next year. Bye bye lawn. Hello cabbages and corn.
