Hi Brad. I have a Lego space train from when I was a kid. and now as an adult I’m a big n scaler with scenery etc see my channel. I googled monorail RC. And your vid came up. I’ve been out of Lego for a long time do you happen to know the Lego part numbers for the extra motor, Bluetooth and etc so I can convert my Lego 9v monorail to RC? I would buy what I need for components on eBay. I know all about the space monorails and I found a 3d printing file for the extra track I’m going to need. But I thought I should want to control my train vs it running full blast. (Like my n scale) I am going to use grout for moonscape and glue down some Lego landing pads and other baseboards for moonscape so that the look you get is from the advertising or book or box pics from the era. Will be no trees on the moon! I have a lot of blacktron, mtron, original space and a ton of ships. So I’m thinking a mine, the train, a spaceport and a blacktron base. I am excited and ready to tackle this project

The Bluetooth receiver (and battery box) is item #88009. Its currently out of stock at shop.lego.com, but perhaps ebay or bricklink. You could the use technic motor 88013, but then you need to find an old 9v motor to use as a generator to drive the monorail motor. To be completely honest with you, my approach did not work that great. It is extremely inefficient and the track needs to be really greased up for it to work very well. The far better approach would be to connect the 88009 directly to the 9v monorail motor. To do this , you will need to cut into the more modern connection wires (such as by purchasing the light set and cutting into it - I can't recall the part#, but its shown on shop.lego.com) and then you would want to be sure the voltage was not going to blow out the old 9v motor - I think it is ok as I think the new box is 4 AA batteries (6v) so it "should" be OK into the 9v motor - but I was scared to do all this and risk my 9v monorail motor so I opted for the hack in this video (which again will work, but isn't ideal).

I liked the idea but it just needs to figure out if it wants to be a dark ride or a thrill ride. Because physically, it just feels like whiplash going back and forth from speedy to showy-slow; both parts look way too even that it's hard to tell what mood this game wants to go for between an adrenaline rush or an exhibit presentstion

How did you get it to where the tracks are invisible?
@BradHamiltonVideo
@BradHamiltonVideo 2 жыл бұрын
There is an option to ignore collisions. Once you do that, you can construct buildings/scenery on top of the tracks so it looks like a trackless ride. The concept is that the ride is switching from trackless mode to a track, back and forth. I've never seen that in real life (it would require the ability to quickly clip on and off tracks), but we can dream of it using Planet Coaster.

Yeah, just like software development, building a ride on Planet Coaster just as challenging as it is a project that requires lots of planning and management. The only thing is unlike software development, developing a virtual ride on Planet Coaster requires no technical skills, its just drag and drop to build but your creativity skills and your imagination to create a good impressive ride is another challenge!

I don't know if I should shout genius or heresy... By default, until someone prove me that it is heresy,I will say genius... The only down I can see to this are the next one :

1) the monorail is conceived to not use any controller, as the ground station allows it to run smoothly, even on open loop, so I don't the interest to control it directly ( to change the direction, you can just control the ground station point with a basic rc system)
@richardjulien1329
@richardjulien1329 2 жыл бұрын
2) control of the speed? Can be achieved with regular pf system, the infrared with the train remote or if you need a fixed slow speed the rechargeable battery box with a set speed, so I don't see the interest of this setup on this...
@richardjulien1329
@richardjulien1329 2 жыл бұрын
3) the weight... Adding two motors means your monorail will weight a lot more, which means there is a risk that it can't climb a monorail ramp anymore, which is one of the main interest of monorail over regular Lego trains...
@richardjulien1329
@richardjulien1329 2 жыл бұрын
4) welp, I have to say, it's still genius... I suspected it, but because of the weight I thought you wouldn't dare.. and you did it.. really nicely done, so you have all my respect

RE your (1) The intent here was to control it more like a train where you can start and stop smoothly. My intent was to evolve this to an automatic mode where you could turn it on and let it auto-sense stations so it would be basically an improved variant of the default setup with optional manual control. I never got there though. Moved on to other things.

I love this ride! it has a certain style of a dark ride that few dark rides dream of. It's dark, suspenseful and got a somewhat 1940s style city theme to it. A solid dark ride 10/10
@BradHamiltonVideo
@BradHamiltonVideo 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks - The styling is taken from the movie on which this ride is based. I took a big risk with this ride as the movie and thus the ride is very slow moving, but the story, music, and styling worked out to be a good combination for more of a dark ride experience vs a coaster.
