Is your RESP for multiple children? I have one child. 55k in his 529 plan so far. It already pays for 5 years of in state tuition if he lives at home. But I keep investing in case he wants to live on campus or out of state. Our university is only 9k per year. I figure college tuition will increase around 5% per year and his ongoing gains would keep up. But, I’m not going to stop contributing.

Hi Darren. I see that you own HYLD in your TFSA. Do they withhold 25% on the dividend because holdings are US securities?
@THECRAZYCANUCKINVESTOR-od4gv21 күн бұрын
Great question. The short answer no. Here is the deeper answer. Distributions from HYLD/HYLD.U are not subject to withholding taxes. The level of distributions reflects the fact that withholding taxes have already been paid by the underlying holdings
@ghislainbourassa190621 күн бұрын
is it because HYLD is a pack of other ETF (SMAX, QMAX, LMAX, FMAX, AMAX, EMAX, RMAX & HBND) and theses ETF have already been taxed?

@THECRAZYCANUCKINVESTOR-od4gvАй бұрын
Hi There. Holding VFV in your TFSA is good for me. Even though there is some with holding tax I don’t see that as a major issue. You want to take advantage of the tax free growth. That’s what makes the Tax Free savings so great. The only alternative is to buy and Hold VOO in your RRSP, which I talk about in other videos. Thanx for watching and leaving a comment.

at 12:45 he begins with QQQY. Before its his portfolio.
@jordonhope3408Ай бұрын
My opinions on QQQY: 1) It won't ever outperform the underlying QQQ for the long-term. That is not its mandate: the cumulative effect of the capped gains matters in the long-run. 2) It is not tax-efficient to hold QQQY. Where QQQ gives you (mostly) capital gains, QQQY distributions that are fully taxable at your highest marginal rate. 3) In a TFSA, you get docked the IRS tax witholding, making the total return unattractive. The best use of a fund like QQQY that I can think of is that you can use it to prove a high income to the bank, and leverage the income stream to qualify for a mortgage on an income property. Since you can't get a mortgage against the rental income stream before it exists, you could use QQQY to get the snowball rolling.

My portfolio is 14% high yielders (but they provide 25% of the income). I will not permit the high yield assets to exceed 15% of the portfolio. If that happens I will rebalance.
