Greetings: Continuing the discussion. Underground cooling of air along with Minar or wind catcher, one can guess 50 to 60 percent cooling. One can doubt on the quality of vegetables and fruits owing to pesticide content but NOT ON THE PRINCIPLE OF PHYSICS. Underground air is the Wingman for the Wind catcher or a SNIPER giving cover to troops from long distance. 3 to 4 degree cooler can " ESTABLISH PERFECT NON STOP GRADIENT" and the hot air has to "OBEY THE PRINCIPLES OF PHYSICS". It has to race towards top. Just like " PRISTINE BALLOON PHILOSOPHY " denser air pushes the lighter helium air inside and the balloon races upwards. Naturally hot air rises and with underground cooling, rate of exit is " ENHANCED or EXPEDITED". Of course the " FIRST BASIC THING WHICH RUNS TO MIND" is the HYGIENE of air. I had envisioned long time back to place TWO SINTEX TANKS DIAGONALLY OPPOSITE. Provides cooler air to all parts of house. Wonderful Day

This would seem to make sense for an HRV intake in extremely cold climates- take in 55 degree air vs -20

Greetings: Amazing info. This design along with "Ancient Wind Catcher" can reduce the AC requirements. This would be no ordinary but BILLION dollar value. Huge savings on power and can reduce inflation. Wind Catchers or Minars are not popular in Indian subcontinent. Wonderful Day

The concern I heard of (in Florida specifically) was a concept for the sanitation of the underground pipes. I recommended an RC at the time. That could scrub, and merit UV light.

I tried somewhat of a system like this at home. I live in an apartment so I can't actually build a wind catcher. I froze some water bottles and afterwards put them on high places, such as my bookcase. Because of the heat gradient that they provide, the air starts moving inside the house. And it does provide a little relief. But it doesn't do that much when it's 40 degree Celsius outside. Also, it works better if you keep the windows shut. But it starts feeling like in an aquarium of some sort. Might try it again next summer. But the problem is not the air. The problem are the walls. They get hot and no matter what you do, the air gets hot as well. And no matter how good the isolation is, (I think I have a really good one, during winter it doesn't get colder inside than 17 degree C, even if I never turn the heating on and outside the temperatures are around 3-5 degrees Celsius on average) they still get hot during summer. I was thinking of some sort of water system, that pumps water thru some pipes outside the walls, so that the water gets hot instead of the walls and I could simply change it when it reaches a certain temperature. But I just don't think I have the technical skills to build such a system. I mean I would probably be able to build it, I just find it hard to do and I am somewhat lazy. :))))) Anyway, I've thought of a really nice test to teast these ideas out. A simple way to somewhat get a general feeling if it's worth doing or not. You do it manually at first. Let's say you put some pipes outside and see if it gets anything done. You somewhat fill the pipes by hand. And if the system is efficient, you will develop the habit of changing the water on a regular basis. If it doesn't work, you will simply not feel like changing the water. Just so you don't have to spend money on sensors and stuff in case you want to give it a try.

On the walls of the pipe passages, it can develop harmful bacteria and fungi over time that will enter the apartments with the airflow. Maintenance is essential. Because it is done with chemical treatment, it can also be dangerous. This is all given to the lungs.

As others have mentioned, this would only work in low humidity environments. Water would build up in the tube, so I would Andre the piping to allow it to drain, and install solar powered uv lights to kill mold and bacteria. Would also put hepa filters and a controller to control a damper and only alllow this to open and run when external conditions are right. It would be like an economizer sequence for air handling equipment

ok, everything nice, logical an so on. But main question, whats next? There is no support (subsidies), all energy efficiency and fight against strange climate fight, based on taxes and obligations for citizens. Only UN climate change forum, spent ,millions for thus talking. Hmmmmm

Across Africa large cities are extremely hot all day and night with humidity reaching at 100%. But have you noticed when you go under a big tree the temperature there is different? Plant lots of trees around your house and your house will feel comfortable. Start today and in a few years you will feel better.
