I wish terrace gardening and water harvesting was encouraged for managing temperatures and coping with water scarcity in urban cities.

We need to think also in ecological solutions. Mod and pot are great materials😉

What about rain water falling on the roof, If only half the pot is only covered with cement mortar, how is the rain water to be drained?

It may be a good at preventing heat, but it's laborious and a bit costly. There's no room left for walking or doing other tasks on the roof
@markhathaway94566 ай бұрын
On walls, where one doesn't walk, a simple air gap to a heat shield would be a simpler solution. Let the shield take the heat, but don't let it touch the "real" roof. The air gap around it lets the heat disburse. For a roof, the reflective white paint gets IR heat, but you still need to insulate from what is below the roof. That's where something like cellulose or rock-wool or foam insulation come in. They all trap the heat in a cushion/layer of air before it can touch the lower part of the structure. In an attic, for example, the air can be trapped and blown away before it has time to conduction transfer to the lower part of the structure.

That's a lot of added weight on the roof.

We have another better way with less investment by ceiling air gate convection.

Why don't just use attic?

why not just add aluminum corrugated panel on the roof top ?

It's too expensive.

No need to bother, just discarded beer bottles。In the past, Europeans used wine bottles to line the bottom of the pigsty and then poured cement to prevent the pigsty from freezing in winter. India's climate has distinct dry and rainy seasons, and there are many venomous snakes and insects, so wind towers used by Iranian cousins and underground pipe cooling systems commonly used by Americans are not suitable. Moreover, there is often severe water shortage in the dry season, so greening and planting trees may not be suitable for cooling. It is wise to thicken walls and roofs, widen eaves, paint the entire house white, and use less modern-style buildings that are all glass.

This will increase the weight of roof

That air will expand and damage the structure 😂

Worst of all ways for thermal insulation, ageing of pots will make all' the plans go away 😂
@tauqeeralam31006 ай бұрын
Not a wise idea. Bad utilisation of roof. Good for vertical walls. Instead put a jute shade 8feet above with bamboo support. Permeable and allow flow of wind.In extreme summer wet the jute toward dusk and it will cool the air beneath. Utilise the roof for more productive idea.

This is stupid idea. Rather than this do a filler slab using the same pots it will insulate and also be sustainable.
@brentfrank70129 ай бұрын
That’s a terrible idea, the thermal improvement is minimal but the weight is tremendous. There are better ways.

From centuries this system is been used in India .

Doing something for centuries doesn’t mean it’s the best way today. Centuries ago horses were the best transportation. There was no electricity.

its an reinforced concrete/brick house with concrete roof so it can easily handle the weight

Horses didn’t contaminated…Doing something new or different doesn’t mean that it will be better neither, isn’t it? 😉 Knowledge from centuries ago have proved to be better that ‘modern’ ones. Let’s try this ancestral method, sure it will surprise us gratefully ✨
