I test rode the R12 yesterday. It was very comfortable and powerful, but the suspension leaves a LOT to be desired. I hit a slightly depressed manhole cover, and got a terrible jolt to my back. It was actually painful! Other than that, it was great. Did a little research and Wilbers makes a fork spring kit and rear shock for this model that reportedly helps a lot. Look at the fork bottom, there is less than 4 inches of travel. But who wants to buy a new bike, only to have to make immediate suspension upgrades? They did this to lower the seat height and draw in shorter riders. I wish I'd tested the R12 nineT instead.

No R1200 boxer engine motorcycles features a fuel gauge. My 2012 R1200-R, the architecture from which the NineT lineup is build from has the same « no fuel gauge » issue. I heard it is related to BMW been sued in a prevues model about the bad accurancy of these fuel gauges.

I was recently in a showroom looking at a BMW 2023 100 year edition R nineT and the black paint finish on the fuel tank was very orange peel. Very disappointing on a 22,000 euro motorcycle. I do not think you would accept this one a BMW motor car.

KTM, Stupid names, industrial strength colour schemes, the looks of a transformer with hemoroids, purely wankers bikes. How much dick swinging do they really think the average punter can engage in? Besides the KTM pillow talk between you two, l clicked on this video to hear the news behind the video title. Why start with the bike review first? 350 likes? Not surprisingly.

What concerns me with KTMs fix for the worn cams is the fix just seems to be swapping out the cams and followers. This could mean that for those particular fixed bikes, tne cams may have exactly the same life span as the original. That is, another 15,000 km before those cams wear out. Are the new followers wider like the later versions, are the new cams harder or are both components exactly the same as the original?. This makes used versions of the parallel twin engines a very dodgy proposition. Honestly KTM have handled the whole debarkle badly. They shredded their reputation entirely on their own.
@RideSafeNSmart3 ай бұрын
Ktm that kind of customer service / cover up is more of a turn off than a bad dose of Gonnarea. I wonder if more issues are yet to arise from all these new parallel twins beyond KTM? Shame I was tempted by a Naughty 901. That italjet is prob worst of both worlds imo - not got the practicality or performance of a 'middleweight'. No first version problems if you buy a suzuki - they keep evolving what works 😊 Cheers guys

KTM history is full of similar stories to the current camshaft issue. Customer amnesia is the only thing keeping them in business.

Got rid of my KTM 1290 was because of electrical issues. That said even though I was just out of warranty KTM were very fair with me and the help they offered. However just too many issues over the 2 years of so I had the bike went back to BMW. Would not buy another KTM which is sad because they ride really sell
@roughrider98313 ай бұрын
You obviously missed the vast swath of issues that BMW have across their models. To BMWs Credit, they have rolled out multiple world wide recalls at great expense to themselves. That is, they eventually acknowledge problems and fix them. KTM, not so much.

@georgemorrison27014 ай бұрын
One of the problems is that valve clearance is not until 18500 miles , I believe, on average that would make the bike about 6 yrs old , well out of warranty ,I can imagine KTMs response then😢

The KTM response reminds me of the Suzuki TL1000S and R rotary damper fiasco. Suzuki, to this day, will not fess up to the fundamental design mistake. The reputational damage has the potential to ruin companies. Suzuki was big enough to move on to better things, but Piera Mobility group is already in a rather dodgy financial position.

KTM is not the messiah, they've been very, very naughty boys. There's shortage of online commentators saying that they've taken their KTM to a dealership for these camshaft issues, just to be told that they won't honour a warranty claim. I think that most of these unofficial, 'anecdotal' instances follow a warranty rejection at the dealership. KTM really have handled the whole thing in a disingenuous manner. If big business wants my money, they have to at least put on a reasonable pretense that morals are part of the company ethos. NB: I'm not interested in any KTM gatekeepers, they're not a god, they're just another big business that doesn't want to spend their cash fixing mistakes. The Italjet looks amazing, but the whole point of a modern scooter is an automatic gearbox. I'm no SJW, but I do allow my politics to influence my purchasing decisions. As a result, high quality and reliability or not, I won't be buying any Kove products. Custom bike builders are making some amazing machines, but I don't like bikes that have a massive hole underneath the saddle. Obviously, my personal taste is counter to the style/trend, but I don't think it creates an image of lightness, it just looks likw they never finished the job.

Guys, the Tenere is way heavier (whatever you do on the header...doesn't matter...BS...and keep in mind the crash bars included in the Kove), it's suspension is crap by comparison, no electronics (even if the Tenere gets some in the future...there will be the same issues you get as with the other Japanese bikes) and it's way more expensive. Whatever you do, normal people will buy Kove when they become available in their countries.

Jump on any social media page focused on a high performance motorbike and you will get mostly negative comments. Some will be legit complaints, some will be false or malicious, and some will be social medial keyboard warriors. However, if I was a manufacturer looking to manage customer satisfaction, and perhaps get some data on reliability outside a dealer network (which has its own vested interests) , I would be using this as a way to improve.
@terrybrooks71404 ай бұрын
And that's why I'll never buy a ktm. Going back in to the eighties Kawasaki gpz1000rx had faulty cams not hardened properly Kawasaki recalled and replaced them all and I think BMW had same problem on 1000xr a few years ago and they were changed .KTM need to stand by there product or be prepared for a massive decline in sales.
@MTBrider264 ай бұрын
100% correct it's KTM's problem to fix. Consumers new & second hand will vote with their wallets. Used bikes will be almost worthless as you won't be able to give them away. Even if the issue has been fixed by the engine updates new bikes sales will tumble on the back of owners knowing they will never able offload them. It seems to be a PR nightmare that is being handled extremely poorly. KTM need to get on the front foot or this could be their own Bud Light moment. Reputational damage is forever and becomes the stuff of folklore.

KTM are not exactly known as the gold standard when it comes to honouring warranty claims, are they? Whilst any manufacturer deserves the benefit of the doubt, there’s no smoke without fire. The fact they keep chopping and changing models (and where they’re made) every couple of years could mean their quality control cannot keep up and just isn’t up to scratch. I won’t be buying a KTM and I suspect many other bikers will feel the same because of this, so the ball is in KTM’s court. Low confidence can kill a brand.

of course KTM won’t acknowledge the problem as far as possible because they’ll clearly want to avoid having to make a recall of loads of bikes at a huge expense that they’d rather not have to fork out for.
