Your video recollections are excellent at representing what was going on at Sonara Bay in the 80’s and 90’s with at least half of the visitors speaking French the place was full of lively people from all over. Wonder if anything is going on there in 2024 is club Med now a residential area for Mexicans?

Yep. I stayed a week there around that time. It was basically for singles. Too much fun. Great boat dive. Great food. But to many orange and/ or yellow beads kept me pretty juiced the entire time. Real sick when I finally got back on the plane.😅

We went to Club Med Cancun in Oct 2020. It rained, A LOT. But near the end of the week. Otherwise very enjoyable. It's so interesting to compare the layout from then to today.

7:34 oh my God does that song bring back Club Med memories! There was a dance that went with the song everyone would do. We were at Sonora Bay for 19 days in 1988 because Areomexico went on strike and then ceased operations leaving us with no way out. All the other flights, buses, and trains were booked solid and all the rental cars had been left at the boarder from Americans leaving Mexico. Club Med finally chartered a flight for a bunch of us to return to America.

I remember the beloved pool refreshing or relieving. And, having pina coladas...til' I'm a a doopey-zucchini straining to pay the barkeep with my bead ($) necklace..Peter called me 'Little Nelly Shellspent'.

Hi! Wow! This was like the way back machine for me! We took our kids there in the summer of 1994. It was so much fun. The whole family had a blast. I learned how to wind surf there. Well, kinda! Every time I tried to turn around to come back to the beach, I found myself further away from it. After a while, they came in a little boat to rescue me. Haha! Thanks so much for sharing your video!

Hello - In June of 1981, I met a girl there named Pat. She was from Toronto and we were pals during the week. Pat, if you happen to see this, holla at me!

I was in Paradise Island, way back in 1978. It was our Senior Class trip. My Late Father thought it was elitist, and wouldn't get off the ground (the poor kids wouldn't be able to afford it.) But, actually, there was a vote with three options: NYC, Toronto or Paradise Island. We chose the priciest of the three. Kind of a ripoff, actually. About $400 dollars. Flew in the middle of the night both ways. Stayed at the Holiday Inn. Four to a room, two to a bed. The other boy in my bed is now a woman (Hey-I'M straight!) We visited Nassau. Locals tried to sell us marijuana-probably undercover cops. We were warned at orientation about entrapment. We all knew there was a private nude beach at Club Med. The Principal was our chaperone. He was mostly drinking, and riding a golf cart. The drinking age was not enforced. Within a few months, it would be back up to 21 here in Michigan(!) One of my roommates was a macho moron with a girlfriend. Had a motorcycle back home. You know the type. I saw him at my twentieth reunion. He works in retail at the local department store. His wife is not the same girl he had on the trip with him. They had a newspaper piece about finding cocaine in a diver's aqualung. But-all the while, The Bahamas was a transshipment point for Pot and Coke from Columbia. We signed up for a scuba trip, but the boat didn't show up. Also did a Robinson Crusoe expedition where "Friday" cooked our Grouper. I made a few friends down there (I had actually transferred from another school that year.) Went to a Discotheque with them stateside. Mom wasn't happy that I was "running around underage!" with a phony ID, but she was really part of an ethnic group who are overprotective of their children. When Premed started, I didn't have time for much. In my Internship year, I went to Hedonism in Negril. I was 30 years old. Not much action for me...mostly "swapping" couples.

Nice sharing this series of videos. My wife and I really enjoy spending a few weeks in the Caribbean every year. With that covid thing, we can't go there. We miss that a lot. We were born in the late '70s and this is amazing to see this has not changed much. Thanks for publishing those videos!
