Will probably be moving soon so I figured I'd say this: Whilst not even being old enough for my parents to have been alive when these photos were taken, I find it very interesting how much this town has changed over the span of 40-50 years and how seemingly more lively it was back in those days. Like most days I walk around town and there's probably less than 1000 people I see walking around. Nowadays this town doesn't seem to have much of a personality in my opinion and I kind of wish it was more like it was in those days with more shops open and stuff like that (I don't actually know what it was like in those days so correct me if it was actually worse back then). This town will always mean something to me as it is my childhood town but overall I just wish there was more going on here.

Also a random question, has anyone noticed the increase of cats going missing recently, like most general areas have at least 1 or 2 missing cat posters, if anyone thinks they might know why let me know because I find it a bit odd.

Thank you, enjoyed your film. I knew Stained Glass in the mid-1970s when they used to play at our local folk club in Sudbury Suffolk. Lovely people. I still play the Open Road album and love it as much as I did back then, part of the sound-track of my life.

Really? I was playing keyboards on this track as a session musician. Very enjoyable . So many keyboards: piano, Hammond B3, mellotron, moog and all on one track, It was in Sound Techniques in Chelsea. A long time ago.

The closest I've ever heard to replicating the experience of arriving in NYC for the first time. I ordered this from an advert in Melody Maker as a new release and when it finally arrived in Canada I was blown away by how cohesive and inventive the arrangements are. It's been in my collection ever since.

I've been outside, in between rains, and I've been idly whistling that hypnotic four note piece at 11:50, which, inside again, *suddenly* I realise is from this album, which I still have on my spidery, mouldy, dusty Vinyl shelf! Great stuff! This album is so evocative of a scouser's experience of the States! Night, Manhattan bridge-line, hearing in my head lonely saxophone in the night from the Williamsburg Bridge…

Thoroughly enjoyed these pictures. Was a customer in Osborn's shop from the moment I arrived in Braintree in 1975. Bought my first locomotive kit from him and my first ever (lethal..IS-12?) superglue (this was before it was even called superglue) Are these pictures taken by the same kind gentleman who looked after me back then? (Steven Duhig). I believe he retired to the West Country/Devon?

Hi, many thanks for your interest. I'm sure that would have been my Father who served you. He retired to Halstead (not as far as Devon,though his daughter, my sister, lives there) and passed away about ten years ago.

Manchester band I believe I ran a fan site at one time, the drummer or bass player was in squeeze until he killed himself, anyway, this LP still ranks in my top 10 ever.

Liverpool band who came out of the art school in the mid seventies. Keith Wilkinson, who played bass with Nasty Pop, was with Squeeze from 1985 to 1996 and is. I am pleased to say, very much alive. He is currently playing with and managing a band called 'The Jar Family who hail from the north east - check them out. Nasty Pop were contemporaries of Deaf School who also hailed from the Liverpool art scene of the seventies (check them out also) from which band came the producer Clive Langer (Madness, Costello, Dexy's etc.) and Bette Bright (real name Anne Martin and who later married Suggs) amongst others. Happy Daze.

got this LP out of a bargain bin for 75p because I liked the cover in the 70's, still rate it as one of the best albums of all time, how these guys failed to make the big time beats me, but like they say "you got to make a joke out of life, if life makes a joke out of you".
@ThDropDeadValentines5 жыл бұрын
The short answer is timing: they and Deaf School brought out their debut albums just months before Punk exploded. BBC refused to give Deaf School air time because they considered the name to be in bad taste...(true story!). Months later they were playing bands with names like The Stranglers, The Slits, The Buzzcocks, Sham 69, the Damned and of course...The Sex Pistols.
