I own the 75-300. Good to have fun and carry during hikes or kayak because its so light. Unfortunately, image quality is weak unless the subject is under the sun. I’ll be looking for an upgrade, still not clear if the 150-600 is light enough to carry on the water, mountain or long walking distance.

The framerate should be higher. For me, the camera is too slow. 15 fps with AF whould be good.

@@ThomasEisl.Photography , I carry it on mountainbike tours. For action shots I find it a bit too slow. Also the shutter blackout is a problem. The AF speed is very good, tho. That's a plus. And the super small lenses. It is a good camera, but framerate is on my wishlist for Mark II.

Hi Thomas, Great video which I really enjoyed. I too use an OM1 and have recently bought the 20mm 1.4 you took. I am also coincidentally going to Budapest in September (from the UK). I have been before many years ago and loved it. I think I will take to 20mm and my 12-100mm f4 pro to cover all the bases. Thanks again for this and your other great videos. Best wishes, Mark

It's so easy to dismiss OM Workspace as a useless bit of 'free' software, and assume the usual suspects must be better. But unless you need to carry out layered or more complex adjustments, it's more than up to the job. One thing I've noticed too is that whilst I always shoot RAW+jpeg, an out of camera superfine jpeg is c.15MB on my OM-1, whereas if I run the raw through OMW, even if I make no adjustments, the exported superfine jpeg is c.6MB - so that's worth it alone!

I recently used this feature for thunderstorm shots. I don't really like using livecomp for that, because it blurs the clouds - and this is where overlay really helps.

Great video! Is there a good reason why you have not upgraded to the OM-1 MarkII, because would it make more sense for me to buy an OM-1 and possibly use the savings on a lens?

A top quality video as always! I haven't warmed to that 20mm lens. I prefer the Oly 17mm f1.8 😉 I have thought about getting the 12-45 F4 Pro to replace my Lumix 12-32 f3.5-5.6. Is that 12-45 f4 Pro so much better? For the OM-1, I think it is overkill for my needs and a lot. Maybe the OM-5 II will be launched this year to tempt me?

I wanted to say that your latest video was incredibly refreshing, educational, and professional. Your insights into the Olympus/OM-1 system cameras are always the most informative and logical. For travel photography, I particularly appreciate the versatility of the 12-100mm F4 lens and the artistic capabilities and sharpness of the 45mm 1.2, which remains my all-time favorite Olympus prime lens. The 45mm focal length is perfect for capturing stunning shots of Budapest's castle, parliament, and other landmarks from across the Danube. Budapest is especially enchanting at night, so it would be fantastic to see some night photography from your trip as well. Keep up the excellent work, and thank you for all your efforts!

Whenever somebody asks me what camera to buy I say "take any top end product from the last 12 years". I think the needs in pixelcount, framerate and autofocus speed matter more than sensor tech. And megapixels only for people who want to print large.

Hello Thomas, Very excellent video - thank you. Have you seen the Viltrox adapter that allows Nikon AF lenses to mount onto MFT cameras ? It is difficult to see if it is a good product - some good reviews and some bad. I could mount Nikon 300 or 500 PF VR lenses to OM-D and G9 body which would be really nice.

I recently took my OM1 to southern Spain, where I visited several mosques and cathedrals. I was shooting handheld at F4, up to about 10,000 iso, using the high res. mode, which gave me exposures of about 1/60 to 1/80. The images were smooth and without noise, with very nice dynamic range, even at iso 10,000. Of course, you are limited to subjects which don't move, and you have to wait while the camera processes the file, but the images were comparable to full-frame, if not better. In the old days, I used to shoot bursts and combine later in PS; now the camera does it for me on the spot, and spits out a nice raw file! This is my favorite feature on the OM1, and I use it all the time when travelling.

After watching your review, I went out and bought a TG-7. I’m shooting timelapses and need a small camera that can stay plugged into a power source. I'm wondering why the "Olympus AC-5 AC Adapter" costs over $100. Can you recommend other reliable power source adapters that are more economical? Any links would be fantastic! Thank you for your very informative and clear videos!

For the TG-7, you do not need the AC-5 - just use the supplied USB-C cable, plug it in to any charger and you are good to go! Hope this helps!

I have the 75-300 witch gives me a lot of fun. And I recently bought the 40-150 f2.8 with a 2x teleconverter. And that gives me the same range. And honestly I believe that the 40-150 with a 2x teleconverter is in the same class as the 300 f4.

Thanks for sharing! Just FYI: While the 40-150 with the TC is very good, and definitely capable of professional results, the IQ of the 300 f4 is definitely better - also measurable in the lab.

Hi Thomas, sorry to bother you. I'm about to buy an om5, I'll conclude the deal soon. I just wanted to ask you something. On the EVF, can I (like on the OM1) deactivate the additional information and only keep ISO speeds and apertures? I also looked in the online manual but it's not specified. On om1 if I activate evf mode 1 I can get this vision. Hello thank you have a good day

Thank you for the video and tour. Very helpful. I’m going to try your focusing tip on the Em5mkiii. Did you at all miss a longer focal length during this trip? Is there a reason you chose the Om1 over the om5?
@ThomasEisl.Photography
@ThomasEisl.Photography 13 күн бұрын
Thanks for the kind words and excellent questions: I really did not miss longer focal lengths, as I did not really aim for capturing wildlife or similar subjects which would have required that. One lens that would be an idea "just in case" longer focal length is IMHO the 75mm f/1.8. Regarding the OM-1: as I had to bring one OM-1 to VLOG/film, I decided to go for 2x OM-1 bc of batteries and potential backup. Also, I thought it would be nice to highlight that the professional OM-1 is really light and compact enough for travel and street. Best, Thomas 📸
