I’ve been in 3 committed relationships in my life and each one of them seemed like the last one in my life. I simply don’t relate to the concept of a relationship being meant to be after this point. Love is messy and fluid. Let Peter Parker move on

Mark my words. If marvel/sony continue this “cucking peter for money”, this probably going to end up badly in spiderverse 3. Like making disappear/reset the universe of peter B parker to save the multiverse from the baggle guy.

This whole thing feels like failing the Bechdel Test but for men, Paul solely exists for MJ, and MJ solely exists to be a strawman and drive Peter insane.

There have been strong elements of anti-"adult" Spider-Man sentiment in Marvel's editorial upper echelon long before Joe Q finally pulled the trigger with One More Day. In fact, the Clone Saga (the prior undefeated champion for most universally reviled Spider-Man clusterf*ck until OMD finally dethroned it) was also an attempt to undo the marriage and soft-reboot Spidey back to his younger early-era status quo. With the Quesada / Slott era, they harkened back even younger than that movement aimed for, pushing back Spider to high school rather than college and in general seeming to bend mainstream 616 Spidey in the direction of Ultimate Spider-Man (high school age Peter Parker as Spidey and ultimately being replaced by Miles Morales). This is anything but what the overall fanbase wants, and the message has been sent again and again in the form of extreme backlash and serious sales repercussions but the powers that are pushing this seem hellbent on their course. As a Gen X fan I grew up with college age classic Spider-Man, who over the course of my time as a fan grew and evolved into the married, in his prime mature and frankly badass Spider-Man of the mid-80s black costume era where he was confident, experienced, and capable. That's my Spidey, the one who'd outgrown the inexperienced, constantly underdog, quippy on the outside to cover his fear, fledgling hero he'd been when he wore the red and blue to become the serious force to be reckoned with who'd seen it all and survived it all when he wore the black. Putting him back in the red and blue was the first step in undoing that progression, and is a very clear symbol of the direction editorial intended which was to wind back the clock and bring back the Silver Age status quo. Ironically, despite loving the Peter-MJ relationship I can see genuine reasons for breaking them up. In fact, as much as I hate admitting it I can't see them lasting as a couple for the exact reason stated in one of those panels --"I know it's not your fault, it's your life. But it can't be my life anymore". MJ is a civilian, and there's only so much "waiting at home hoping tonight won't be the night she gets the bad news he's never coming home" she can take and that's not even counting the other crazy things that tend to happen to heroes from time to time like the aforementioned mind-swap. Nobody can be expected to handle that level of stress and misery forever, not when they can opt out. So, bizarrely enough, story pressure forces me to conclude that "my" Spider-Man ends up in a situation where he and MJ are exes who will always love each other but can also never make it work and they have to accept that moving on is their only choice. She needs to find someone who can give her a normal life, and he needs to find someone "in the biz" who's just as committed to the hero life as he is and can fight at his side and go through the ups and downs and twists and turns together with him. So long as the "teen Spidey forever!" faction remains in charge at Marvel, that vision will never happen. It gives them half of what they want, a single Spidey, but one in his mid to late 20s as a mature hero and not the teenager living with Aunt May and faced with perpetual personal misfortune and heroic underdog status they want. They don't seem to realize that "lovable loser" has a shelf life, eventually the audience sympathy runs out and turns into apathy and perhaps even to contempt. You end up with Charlie Brown, which hasn't done anything original in decades and is running on pure nostalgia fumes. It simply isn't sustainable.

I am glad I only ever read the best parts of Amazing Spiderman comics and Ultimate Spider-man comics, and just enjoyed my rest of Spider-man content from animated shows pre-2011 and the raimi films. Because goddamn Spider-man comics feel like a mess now.

If you think a source of consciousness is bs, just look up what an 11th dimensional entity is. And its existence, is guarateed. because the 3 dimension we currently exis in, does exist so itinevitably goes to 11 dimensions of space. Not dimensions as in another reality. dimensions of space. Infrared spectrum, our 3 dimensions. space time, these are dimensions of space. and in those higher dimensions, there could be life. since it would be percieved on this plane, and higher dimensional beings could percieve the lower dimensions. But have more ontrol over our reality. This may be what ufos are as well.

They had the potential to play up the Peter vs. Paul rivalry as the normal versus the weird. MJ always kind of had one foot in each world, and after all the torture that comes along with dating the unluckiest superhero in the world, you can see why she'd want to be with someone who was just some guy. Paul will never sell his marriage to Mephisto. Paul will never switch brains with a supervillain who abuses you for a year. Paul will never be cloned. Nobody will ever hold you hostage to get to Paul. Yeah, he's just some guy, but that's his main selling point. Meanwhile, Peter is bonding with his archenemy because they're the only ones who can relate to each other due to how steeped in weirdness they both are.

Spider-Man dosent have to end we have miles the new Spider-Man let Peter retire with mj have them show up every so often but shift the focus just like the games are we have the first Spider-Man game ever without Peter Parker being a playable character and it was still a Spider-Man game remember what Stan Lee said Spider-Man's costume doesn't show skin because Spider-Man could be anyone, it's not just Peter Parker by holding peter back like this there spiting on the ideal the character was made on

I think the thing that gets me the most about not letting Peter grow is that they have already a perfect way to have a Spider-Man who stays relatable and resonant to young readers while carrying the same mantle and all the meaning that comes with it. Miles. He's already super popular with younger fans, so lean into it. Hell Spider-Verse even shows exactly how this dynamic of an older, wiser (and married) Peter with the younger still learning Miles can work. It's all there if Marvel could just let go of Peter always being stuck in one place. "Parker Luck" wasn't supposed to mean Peter never gets to be happy or grow.

You bring up bat brick being from police comics and I don’t think people fully grasp how unhinged quality comics, the company behind police comics was. Being the creators of plastic man they had him fight such villains as doctor forklift, a man with a forklift for legs. They also had such heroes as Uncle Sam, a spirit summoned by the founding fathers who gains power from American spirit. Quality comics would eventually be bought by dc going full circle with bat brick

I think personally, especially as a fan who became one post OMD, I'm kinda just sick of MJxPeter nonsense?? Like I'm sure that's how fans probably 20 years ago felt about even older fans who wanted Gwen Stacy back perhaps. Like I'm honestly ready to just fridge MJ and I guess by extension Paul. Let Peter find another love interest or something. There's enough fertile ground for someone for Peter to be with. But having to read through obvious Peter torture porn and will they wont they nonsense while catching up was exhausting, and so is having to hear fans bitch about Paul now.
