Hello. I have been following Kasper for years, and as a young junior runner in the last years his grandfather was competing at a high elite level I was happy as a young junior running as an apprentice on his team in relays as 10-mila and other relays in the mid 1970thies. I have been happy to follow Kasper as a supporter since his granfather Per told me about Kaspers nice behaviour when they travelled around at O- events in Europe when Kasper still was a boy-runner. Kasper have my respect as a nice and caring man in addition to being worlds best O-runner. But because I was disabled after a vaccine I can only follow Kasper in all his television sent events. I would like to tell that I also admire Per in his way of following Kasper from he was a young boy, and Kasper has got the same highest level of orienteerings technic as Per was well known for in his best years in the elite, and in addition Kasper is at the highest level in running. Best Regards from Arne G in Norway

How do you account for declination with a thumb compass? Can’t find the answer anywhere! Thank you!
@intotheforestigo2 ай бұрын
There is no need. Maps and compasses are already adjusted and they align with what the compass shows. You only need to worry about this when you go running on a different hemisphere. Then you need a different compass :)

@@intotheforestigo thanks so much for the reply! Is this in regards to an otienteering maps only? What about maps that show a declination? Thanks!

@@Michael-ui1tp I don't know. I rarely work with other maps nowadays, due to phone GPS ;)

Hello! I love your videos and I am going to start orientering this year. Can you make a video on gear, specifically compasses if you can (The types, with degree bezels or no bezel at all)?

We usually have a lot of features at our events...and compass is rarely required...that being said...our features can be very low key, almost undetectable especially if running...

This was a great listen. These long interviews might not be the most popular, but for those interested, they definitely are diamonds.

One thing I would like to say that has helped me a little bit, is watching videos of competitors in the various types of events. That has been accomplished through the use of the tracking apps that can follow along with helping runners choose the route they do to the various controls. Also I have found that in my limited amount of hanging out with my local run club, it has helped me to increase my speed a little bit up in the woods.

Just finished my first event. Your tips came in really handy. I made a list and had everything sorted and packed the night before so the morning went smoothly. I planned on not making mistakes, but still made a few and learned from them. Checked my compass often. Took a back up compass. I actually dropped my compass 3 or 4 times during the event. Found all the 14 controls in the woods, and your videos were a big help. I'll be back to do it again next event.

I have my first event coming up in 4 days. I registered for the event 11 days before the event, and really didn't have much time to prepare. I also got a little overconfident and registered for the orange course. LOL. But your videos have been super helpful in reducing my anxiety level and helping me focus on the right priorities, Thanks so much!

The race analyses/map moving and rotating was less jumpy and therefore easier to follow. Lots of post race insights by Tom on the newer knock-out sprint format. He knows his stuff.

Thanks for your time and effort over the last year. Your channel is probably the best source of orienteering content that I've found on KZbin. The videos are excellently made and a real resource. Just thinking out loud here but what about inviting other orienteering coaches on to discuss specific topics or just their approach to coaching. And maybe through the coaches more access to athletes. I have a couple friends coaching at national junior level. Happy to make the introduction if that sounds like something you'd be interested in.

Oh dear I have terrible endurance so id just rely on having a good sense of direction but ive had some stinkers: First there was an error and they placed some water where the point should be and vice versa. I was lost and 1 km away from it!!!!!!!!!! In a jagged rocky terrain. Cost me 51min..i would have done it in 40 min if it wasnt for that.. Another was someone having the great idea to zig zag through a valley with a "shallow stream"....shallow my arse ahah got down to my knees. The other side of the hill had tall grass in an incline so if there are rocks, hole...oh well. Of course tripped and did a 180+ degree turn and then gall on my back on a.rock.... At the end of that one people were piiiiiissed 😂 I got chased by chicken, had to pass by a group of cows and.bulls ( of course i just walked and did not look at them), had to take shelter in a ambulance with the emts due to a sudden.hail storm. Some people got bruises on their arms back forehead) , was filmed nfor a.promotional video finding the wrong point....tbf i do miss it but if i was to do it it would be in the ones open to general public as well. Lets say i dont have the same body i had as a 15yo 😂😅

I like the idea of this analysis but it's pretty choppy as in the map is moving around too much at times to focus on the route choice. I think it video and analysis could be better if there was more of plan of which legs to focus on as well as which route choices to compare, etc. Overall I think Feri and you have much to offer but I don't think I got out as much analysis as I would have liked to.

Thanks Brian. I had a similar feeling after recording it. It is choppy and it's not easy to learn from it. I will try to do better in the future.

Ja zgubiłam na pierwszych treningowych zawodach, bez kompasu poszło sprawniej, mniej czasu patrzyłam na niego a więcej na charakterystyczne elementy terenu. Pierwszy był płytkowy za kilka zł. Był pretekst żeby kupić fajniejszy kciukowy :)

I'm running (or, more often, walking) without a compass all the time (because, doing those events only for fun and some extra training for TrailO, I don't need to take care of having proper compass habits). I'm taking it with myself (as I learned that sometimes, especially in some crazy rocky terrain, you can get lost so much that you need to check which way is north), but most times it stays in my pocket for the whole race. It started accidentally - I left my compass in the car and decided that I'm too lazy to go back and get it, and after the race (which was a training event where I had most paths removed from the map for a bit of extra difficulty) decided that it was great fun and it has forced me to read a lot of additional details from the map, so next day I did not use my compass and I never started using it again - it's been around 3 years now.

I usually don't know what to look for if on the map is small circle or X (green or black or bonze), and I wonder if the thing I found might be it. (When and where are your camps? please put me in "lottery machine")
@johnrobertson75836 ай бұрын
@agawin76 go on the web and do a search for “iof” symbols and “map symbols for mapmaking”...also generally the map you are given for an event will have the legend showing what those symbols are...

Have you ever experienced some kind of brain fog or blackout during the start of relay race? I did. and I screwed the race for my team. Any methods to deal with it?
@intotheforestigo11 ай бұрын
When your brain is fried at the beginning of the race, it's usually too late. It's especially true for the relay race where you don't have an option to stop and cool down. That's what I'd do during a normal race. These kind of situations are exactly why I advocate to do the right kind of work and prep before the start. You really don't want to be brain-dead at the start. The problem is that even if you'll know what to do, because of my or someone else's advice, the state your head is in will not allow you to apply it, as you don't think straight anymore.
@cinkopinko11 ай бұрын
Thanks. Maybe I just need to sleep more, not to talk to anyone before the race and try to start racing slowly despite it is a sprint. :)
