Thank you Dermot. I’m looking into buying a morris minor convertible. Do you offer an inspection. Service for buyers ? If so the cost please.

This was really useful thanks. Had a look at a prospect over the weekend. Looked OK on the outside! It was parked on a steep driveway and I noticed that the drivers door was sagging a a bit which made me suspicious of the door pillar. Looked ok on the photos when parked up on the flat. It's difficult when you can't really start poking around with a screwdriver with the owner watching. There were other tell-tale signs too which all added up to a decision to walk away sadly.

Had the same issues getting it on i used a big zip tie and a plastic shim between the syncro and the gear if the synchronizer moves towards the 1st gear the pill 💊 will pop up just enough to stop you from getting the synchronizer gear on once on i removed the zippy strap it made life easy put each spring and ball under the strap individually then slide gear on the wedge between the first and reverse synchronizer will keep it steady enough the pill moves up and down as the synchronizer slides

Hi, thanks for your uploads. I wanted to share - I am restoring a 61 Morris Minor 1000 2d (using the same welder) and am finding all the same bodges and ridiculous previous patches that is making it all the more difficult. It’s almost like our cars are the same or have been bodged by the same person. Your videos have been an invaluable source of inspiration and confirmation when I stagnate, exhausted by the enormity of the job. Hope progress had been fruitful.

Great video, thanks for the upload. 8:30 that weld may need less voltage on the selection switches and/or more wire speed (amps) for increased penetration.....it's always a trade off? .... often the case when using MIGs with too high a capacity for thin bodywork steel, the low end current and voltage is tough to set with too large a step between settings. Older sprung hi tensile body steel maybe thicker but I find it's tougher to weld due to its carbon content. The Internet would have you believe that bigger is better with MIG amps. A 90 amp MIG really is all the power and still then some you need for car monocoques. We aren't dealing with gate hinge gauge here etc. Interesting video. Been MIG welding over 40 years, it gets easier but, every day is school day😊😎

The things we do for the love of these cars , yet in the 70s the scrapyards were all full of Morris minors of every description. Some of them weren’t in bad condition either. You could buy any part for these cars for pennies.

Thanks for the gear update. Helping my Dad with his gearbox and might be experiencing the same issues with the pin wear. The locks had him stopped for a while and I was able to get it in. Got it together and the spring and ball popped out. With the "awesome" help within the pages of the manuals, I'm still uncertain about something. Are there three spring & ball bearings in the gear you replaced or just one and the pin? Also, should the gear under that it's riding back and forth on move, or slide, on the mainshaft?

Hi Dermot, I’m interested to know what bhp you are aiming to obtain from your engine. I have a 1275 A+ and wondering if 90 to 100 bhp is achievable and the mods needed to get there

I'm hoping for about 95bhp that's with a decent camshaft, single carb and a decent head.it can be done, search for 1330 midget engine on google. Its been a while since I've had time to get in the garage so I'm hoping to get in there soon and compete the project.

I'm doing a similar job on my four door and was told the boxing plat fixes to the undersill inner, not outer. When I do weld mine in think I will temp fit the door & align sill finisher outside then work in. It's a right head scratcher with these replacement panels. Good luck 👍

Hi Dermot, great video - you'll already have a load of advice from the MIG welding forum, almost endless amount of knowledge from the folk on there! One thing we spotted, we'd recommend turning the gas off at the bottle when you're not using it, there's always a chance of a little leak which can go unnoticed, might save yourself a bit of gas :) - practice makes perfect, keep up the good work!

Thanks, good video. I’ve been considering a moggy for a while, but I’m not familiar with them, and this video is a great help. Replacing or fabricating some panels doesn’t phase me, as I was brought up on welding up mostly 70’s + 80’s cars. Hopefully later this summer I can have a look around for one, after I’ve got a few other things out of the way.
