That was some pretty awesome first-person perspective footage as you were descending into the shaft! Seems to be some confusing workings down there at the bottom. It’s unfortunate about all the trash that’s down there. Your ascension looked grueling. That shot looking downward at 23:39 was scary! Good hearing Joe’s narration in the latter half of the video. The background music starting at around 28:23 was pretty cool - it almost had an outer space quality to it with that synthesizer in the background. Joe has a great voice for narrating! The music while Joe was ascending was also pretty cool. Great video! 👍

@@ZiaMountainAdventures Do you think the trash was acting as a plug and that the vertical shaft continued downward underneath it? That would be my biggest fear. You think you’re at the bottom of the shaft when really you aren’t - you’re walking on a plug.

Definitely possible, the reports talked about a 110' inclined shaft so I am guessing that was it. Very vague reporting over there and I think they got a couple locations crossed with others. We went down about 80ish ft.

That name you show at 4:41 is Jose L. Gabaldon. I did a little sleuthing online. There was a guy with that name who lived from 1898 to 1963. He died in California. He did have a son named Jose Leon Gabaldon Jr. who was born 1938 in Gallup, McKinley County, NM. The son died in 2006. I’m assuming the father lived there as well. I wonder if that graffiti at 4:41 is one of them? Is this mine near Gallup, New Mexico or in McKinley County where they apparently lived at one time? The father also had another son named Frank Gabaldon. That’s a pretty extensive mine with a lot of gobbing all over the place! That graffiti of the burro or donkey was interesting. I find it really interesting that they drew pictures of the burros that worked with them in the mines. It makes sense, though. Those blue rocks were REALLY blue! Don’t think I’ve ever seen an ore cart that tipped like that one did that you found. Great newspaper find! Just think - thirty years ago those newspapers wouldn’t have been such a great find. Now they are a great find because traditional newspapers are going out of business and moving to an online presence thus making printed newspapers obsolete.

Some pretty amazing colors there at the beginning of the video! Nice Bible reference there. I had to look that one up. That was a great shot at 15:02 as you looked back up into the stope from which you just came through. The other headlamps in the distance really gave that shot a lot of awesome perspective. Nice incorporating some of Joe’s footage into your video. Good seeing him in your video, too! It looked like those were some complicated, older workings that you were making your way through after you went down the metal chute. I would guess that not many people have explored that part of the mine. 29:00 “Let’s make sure” - I can totally relate to that! LOL At 31:50, what was that string for? Congrats on finding the connection via that ore chute/pass! Your background music throughout the video was awesome! It wasn’t obtrusive or obnoxious, and it helped set the tone of sketchiness, danger, and slight unease.

Thanks for taking the time to check it out Frank! That stope was pretty dang big, made me wonder if there was a working level there and it just all collapsed. Madman Joe, he is like a human drone haha! Yeah those workings were unique to say the least! I don't think many have been in those sections, I passed that whole area up years ago so it was kinda a shocker to see the rest! Yep, gotta make sure right? You and I both know those areas can play tricks on your mind. No idea what the string was for, I wondered myself maybe a bell to communicate loads? Not sure. It was insane to walk up to that spot we climbed up into there, I think I felt new connections in my brain forming haha! Thanks, I worked about a week doing the music for this one. Thank you very much Frank your words are always appreciated!

New sub here Australia opal miner here , abandoned mines get my interest , we don't have the history you people have as in mines and infrastructure . Thank you for taking me on this explore. 14.09 oxygen bad air time to step backwards only takes one non breath, grey beard here 17 or less I stop and walk backwards bad air pocket indeed walking into it stirs up what is not there . @ 17:08 its back fill with country rock as you said saves taking it out . You where right do not panic and exit been in these sits exploring I use a multi mine meter that doesn't just give available oxygen level , you and your people dodged a bullet there when the meter starts that beeping not good times ahead. The wood on the rails on the floor rotting tend 2 take up the available oxygen and no air flow as you where going in creates pockets of dead air . May I add if you are going 2 do these explores small portable oxygen canister light weight come equipped with mask cheap enough on the net just in case , I always carry one never had to use it though, but I digress its been mentioned that I do.

Cool video! That opening montage proves that you’ve seen some awesome stuff underground. Yeah, that stashed glass bottle you saw above you was interesting. Were you able to retrieve it? I found a smaller glass bottle stashed up above some timbers in a tunnel in a mine once. It turned out to be a small bottle of what I think was called V-J Mouthwash or something like that. And it was still a third of the way full with a black liquid! I brought it home and it sits on my shelf. I never did open it, though. Very cool that you guys got into some new areas. That’s always a good thing! The Siri voice at the beginning was hilarious.

The intro montage is pretty spectacular! Those are pretty impressive-looking mill remnants. Those protruding pipes were strange. Was the 3000 foot marker accurate? The recurring “Ruby” graffiti was intriguing. Yeah, that 14.9% oxygen reading was on the low side and a sign to retreat. 17% to 19% is still okay in my opinion. Nice video! The slower, more thorough pace was enjoyable and relaxing. 👍

Thanks! I went back to an earlier version kinda and just put new clips on it, I am getting back to basics on documentation so that is why I started slowing down and trying to capture the whole thing. I am happy you noticed. Those pipes reminded me of a mine in this area that had water dripping out like a retaining wall would have, that is what I was guessing was going on there. Maybe? I don't think the 3k marker was correct. I was actually getting slightly light headed before the o2 meter went off, but as you know that's why we have them. Thanks bro I have quite a bit more coming down the pipe, more dusty bear with new areas, found new sections in the tango as well!

The black material is shale. I don't recall the name of the formation but it's also encountered in the main haulage adit at that nearby mine where we climbed down that incline. I'm curious about the mine getting flooded out in 1929 - that's uncommon for a drift mine, particularly since there don't appear to be any workings below adit level. For what it's worth, that mill was the last in the district with the exception of the modern operation down in the valley. It was connected via aerial tram to several mines at much higher elevation. I want to say the mill ran on ore from other mines until 1934 but that may be inaccurate. This mine is geologically very odd - I think there's a possibility of ore at depth that was never adequately explored. Bear in mind that there has never been a modern drill campaign in that part of the district. The last drill campaign I'm aware of blocked out an orebody north of that snakey portal that hasn't been mined - yet.
@ZiaMountainAdventures
@ZiaMountainAdventures 2 ай бұрын
Only thing that makes me think the flood report might be correct, we hiked to the top one on the north side, completely flooded, not sure if lower workings, don't think so. The shale stuff is wild man, reminds me of coal kinda. Imagine seeing that place in operation with the tram? That would've been a sight to see. We'll return to the snakey portal soon, punks, lol.
